reasonably priced is a bit awkward as to some best value is the one that gives total piece of mind. vanbitz do an excellent alarm designed for motorhomes but its certainly not what i would call cheap

most compatible modular car alarms can be fitted and allow you to arm the perimiter but leave the inside sensors off. it all comes down to how much you want to spend and whether you want to go with one that gives an insurance discount

Does your MH have a basic alarm at the moment? If so, you could enquire about upgrading the alarm to Thatcham Cat 1.

I have a Sigma S34 Thatcham 2/1 upgrade system fitted which does everything we need it to do. We can leave dog inside vehicle by simply disabling the internal sensors via the remote key fob. No false alarms to date.

Our system was fitted by TVS of Taunton

Another vote for the Vanbitz Strikeback. Certainly not the cheapest but it is designed for motorhomes and works well. Nice place to stay whilst it is fitted and Eddie & the team are great guys. Highly recommended.:thumb:

I have to agree with JeanLuc, we have had Vanbitz alarms fitted to both of the vans we have owned. We have not had a problem with them in the 9 years we have been motorhoming.:thumb:

just had a thought...

If you disable the interior sensors will your insurers decline a claim ?

I asked this of the brokers we used to use. good question they said so rang the insurers underwriters at Aviva. the answer back was if your external alarm and immobiliser are still operating then the insurance would stand. As said, if theres a dog in the van or you set the perimeter alarm at bed time, the vehicle is not being left unattended.

There is no real choice Vanbitz is the only place to go if you want a good system fitted properly designed for a motorhome, you can also be sure they will not try to sell you something you do not need.Where people get the idea that they are expensive I do not know as you have to compare eggs with eggs, the cheap systems used by some companies are not the same or even close to the quality vanbitz fit

I think the question is one of value rather than expense. There are loads of cheaper alarms available, but I do not think they offer as good value as Vanbitz. As you imply, one gets what one pays for!

The problem with many of the systems is that that they are using a cheap car alarm, calling it a motorhome alarm and charging you top dollar for it.

With the Strikeback you are getting a bespoke motorhome alarm; with proper provision for all the extras such as locker/bike/trailer protection as well as debilitating interior alarms. A system like that coupled with a company that has specialised in motorhome security for 20 years, where everyone in the family from the grandmother to the grandchildren are motorhome enthusiasts (who each own and use their own motorhomes) and you have a winner. Which is why Vanbitz, their alarm, workshops and campsite have won so many awards over the years.

Yes you can buy cheaper, but you can't buy better, and I would not fit any other alarm.

This is getting boringly repetitive, but I'd also endorse going for Vanbitz. Similarly as with a house alarm, I'd suggest that ironically a "cheap" alarm is actually a waste of money: if it's easy for an experienced thief to bypass or the siren won't get any attention, it's not worth bothering with.

The Vanbitz Growler genuinely makes it impractical for the thief to stay in or near the van, and the LEDs provide a very clear indication to a thief that they'd be better off going for easier pickings elsewhere. The control to switch over for when the dog's left in the van is easy to use as well.

Finally, I found the advice from the guys there, on a range of motorhome matters, was first rate. I was especially impressed that with some things I was looking at they advised me not to buy at once, but to wait and see how I used the van. It's rare to get a level of service which foregoes immediate revenue for long term customer care.
