Advice on France in July (1 Viewer)

Hi

Looking to go down to the Loire in mid July. Can anybody tell me....
1. Is it advisable to book in advance campsites along routes?
2. Is it better to plan where you are going or can you just drift and find somewhere to stay?

Prefer not to stay in Aires - (wife gets nervous!)
Also any tips, places to see, cycling routes appreciated

Aires....try before you buy !!

Have a look at the aires ! Nothing to fear !!:Blush:

If it were me, I would drift along and use Municipal sites , much cheaper as they don't have all the razzmatazz !!:Cool::Cool::Cool:

We toured the Loire area extensively in 2010 and 2011.

No need to book sites, just drift along and enjoy.

Can't go wrong cycling around the Loire area - the Loire à Vélo is a well defined set of routes - plenty on the web http://www.cycling-loire.com/
Amboise is very popular and there is a nice site in Montsoreau, the bus to Saumur runs from just outside the site, it turns around here so no worries about getting off!.
The list is extensive, we normally drift, but not in August when it gets very busy.

If you venture a bit further south then come and see us at Parc Verger - cycling on a previous railway line that now has a tarmac surface is great, and you could not find more beautiful scenery with plenty to enjoy. And I'm not biased, promise!!!!

We stayed at Montsoreau last year. Decent site on the river bank. The Velo cycling route runs alongside the site, Saumur only 15KM and 95% off road easy cycling. Cycle to Fontevraud-l'Abbaye, couple of hills, but fields of Sunflowers take your mind off them and the Abbey is a wow! Plenty of caves just up the road, still growing mushrooms and lots of lovely wine. You are next door to Saumur champigny region. Candes St Martin very pretty - nice restaurant in front of the church.
