I'm just about to fit a 1500w inverter. I have two 110 batteries. I've been told that it is best practice to have the inverter wired to both. ie. Neg from one, pos from another. Is this correct?

If I can fit it to just one battery it will save me a lot of messing about and the cable run will be all of 9 inches. Is it OK to do this?

NB the long-winded thread title is for the search engines:winky:

it works in mine .i did have a different inverter that had two pos leads and two neg leads this one i connected to two batteries , but the latest as only one of each lead . seems to be ok .
the first inverter was a ring auto motive .2000w lasted about 8 years .
i bought this one a couple weeks ago.Link Removed

Hi Jim, we had one fitted on our old Autosleepers Ravenna. The supply was taken from just the one battery, we did have two leisure batteries fitted. We had no problems with this set up.

shouldn't make a lot of difference Jim, unless the two batteries are far apart.

The battery interconnecting cable will be nice and short and, of course, the inverter inverter supply leads are better the shorter they are.

Would make sense on a four or six battery bank as it would be further from the battery connected to, to the last battery in the bank

depends on your battery bank .and how you charge it . i have 600amp of battery in the trailer plus a 2100amp i connect into it from a leisure bat in the truck . 6x80wat solars on the trailer roof . powers 240 v fridge .computer .twinub washer ,tv plus ariel.. in winter fine in spain morocco.portugal .
in summer it powers fridge an d deep freeze in house. by an extension lead from the inverter .
also good for drills grinders etc .
i also have a 24v to 12v battery charger in the truck that tops the battery in the truck that i also connect to trailer.
2kw inverter.

we do have to remember most inverters are chinese these days . my ring one had china written on almost every component .a mate is going to check it out might be repairable .
but running even a 600w i think is too much . far better direct to battery.

Actually its best to get the smallest to cope with what to need to run, a 1000W is 83 amps so a pair of 80 amp/hr batteries will be down to 50% in one hour. So don't get carried away, its not power for nothing. 150W will cover most things chargers TV etc.

Similar setup using modified sine wave inverter at similar price. Okay for most things like hairdryer, kettle etc but may give problems with other electrical items like laptops. Maximum I run is 1200Watt. Inverter is connected to one of two linked leisure batteries with good quality copper 16mm2 stranded cable which should be as short as possible to prevent voltage drop. No problems re cut out or heat - works for me.

Assuming that i have a run of the mill inverter then what is likely to be the efficiency (watts out to watts in) of the inverter at full load and 10% load?

Is it more efficient to get a dc to dc converter (say for laptop) rather than using an inverter and a mains to laptop adapter?
