Send it to Scarborough Council???

Perhaps we all should!!! As we know motorhomers DO contribute to the local economy, and by charging an overnight fee on the Marine Drive and in other suitable places, the council could make some money. Cornwall wants us - North Yorkshire doesn't! Shame!

And only a week ago, everyone wanted to boycott Cornwall for putting a very convenient cycle lane over the controversial camping area at marazion.

They do want you here, in the right place! Lets hope that the rogue element do not ruin the welcome! Nice to see a destination opening their arms!

Since 2009 with motorhomes several caravans then tents before that.
Scarborough aren't saying they don't want you though are they?
They are saying they don't want you sleeping in your vans overnight , when there are plenty cl's and campsites nearby.
Nothing stopping you getting there early for the day from 7am , having your breakfast down there like weve done in the past. Then staying there for the day so the kids can go surfing and have a few go's on the fairground rides. Buy some crabs legs , rock and ice-cream and move on up the coast . Cornwall is lovely but too far for a long weekend , for us , anyway.

Depends. At a CCC site in Scarborough right now. Sometimes I need the facilities, sometimes I don't; member of both CC and CCC!

When here for a week with the family, need space for the kids to play/run-about, play areas, facilities, laundry, security, don’t mind being 2-1/2 miles from town or incarcerated by the locked barrier overnight. Site is fine.

When here for a quick weekend alone diving/sailing/cycling, need somewhere I can arrive late/anytime, within walking distance of town to eat-out/drink/socialise, somewhere I can be on the move at dawn to get on with whatever I want to do. Mostly all I need is a piece of tarmac 23ft x 8ft. It’s not about being tight with money, very happy to pay … it’s being close to the town and freedom. Actually spend more when close to town as there are some pretty decent restaurants in Scarborough, Watermark for breakfast and Blue Crush for live music and a coffee in the afternoon. The campsites around do not offer what I need.

There are some quiet residential streets which still fit the bill. If anybody needs any pointers, get in touch!

Cheers.

Well that`s our 13th year & still loving it.
The Tintagel car park is privately owned and has been allowing overnight stays for several years but you must be self-sufficient and take your waste away with you.

It`s also next to the pub so not too far to stumble...:thumb:

It will be manic down there in 2 weeks [HI]for run to the sun[/HI]

My son is almost in tears, it's the last one. Owners of the site have decided not to continue after this year.

THIS year's Run To The Sun event in Newquay will be the last, organisers have confirmed.
The car rally and music event has grown in popularity but Trevelgue Holiday Park, where part of the action is based, has said it will not continue after this year.
The event provides a major boost for the town's economy as hundreds of tourists head to the resort.
A spokesperson for Cranstar Holidays, who operate Trevelgue Holiday Park, said they were calling this year's event the "final chapter" - and were heading in a new direction.

since a child
run to the sun was really started by a run to scewjack surf village near sennen . as a member of cornwalls surf coast cruisers we put a show on that they came to . later it moved to trevelgy . one year they didnt host it . it went to frontier city at st columb . it went back to trevelgy the next year . i used to hold a repair workshop and spares stall there years ago . but it got so expensive i packed it in . still its a real good weekend .
the main one at trvelgy was dave chapel who died several years ago .he put alot of effort in for trevelgy making it work for them .
