We are heading up to the West Coast of Scotland in early August - we have visited many of the club sites in that area - any ideas for other sites? bearing in mind we prefer electric hookup, toilets and hardstandings? Also unusual things to see or do? Many thanks in advance for any ideas!

The only CC site that we've stayed on in the west of Scotland was Craigie Gardens, Ayr. I think they've re-named it now. It's not too far to walk from it into the town either, nice site although fairly close to the town centre.

The CL at Largs is ok, but a couple of miles drive from Largs itself, wouldn't like to walk it though. From Largs pier it's a short hop across to the Isle of Cumbrae on the ferry, then take the bus into Millport where you can hire bikes and cycle around the island:thumb:
Can't be more helpful than this, we lived in Largs for years, but since getting the mh, we've spent more time on the east coast of Scotland:RollEyes:

North West Scotland is for us the wild camping capital of UK.....

Not much need for sites, having said that, we enjoy amongst others;

The site at Ardelve, basic facilities, on the loch side, great views of, and a short walk to Eilan Donan Castle, and the pub in Dornie, is one of our favourites.

Farmer comes round in the evening and collects the £10 fee. EHU if you need it on meters which take £1 coins....

Also the site at Ullapool is good with great views, 2 mins walk into town for pubs, great fish and chips etc, and Tescos 5 minutes walk to top up on provisions....

We luv it up there........:thumb:

To the top if necessary!

You must head to Durness ::bigsmile: Dornie is a definite stop as said also Lairg if you are planning that route . A must visit is the Falls of Shin. Lots of wild camping from there north.

We took a French group of 17 motorhomes from Newcastle north up the centre of Scotland as far as John o Groats stopping at the camp site there and taking the day trip to Orkney . Across the top coast and back down the west coast. They adored Scotland above Inverness and said they would never have ventured that far north alone.

Enjoy ::bigsmile:

Our fourth glorious year!
Would recommend Bunree, Scourie and Kinlochbervie (CL).Durness is great if you can get front line on the cliff top and watch the waves rolling in.The thing to remember is to face west to get the best sunsets! :Smile:

Try Ardgartan, just up the road from Loch Lomond and then further up there is Scourie.
We stayed at Ardmair in Ullapool last week which was also great.

Enjoy and please bring some sunshine with you! ::bigsmile:

Ardgartan closed permanently last year, I understand it will soon be all holiday lodges, unfortunately the site is still listed in many publications.:Sad:
