Some real nice smaller American R V s on E Bay. What kind of fuel consumption can you expect with either the Diesels or LPG on a petrol? BUSBY.

expect 10 to 12mpg on petrol, 8 to 10 on LPG and 14 to 16mpg on diesel.

regardless of motorhome weight and size petrol engines will vary between 6.8ltr and 8.1ltr....diesels appear to be mostly 6.5ltr.

bear in kind LPG is around half the price of petrol so when someone posts they get 18/20mpg that is the cost equivalent to petrol....not the actual mpg.

driven at 55mph i get around 8mpg on gas and 10mpg on petrol.

Hi buzzy
We have a 27ft 4inch long RV running on LPG, our previous motorhome was a bessecarr 760, and as the cost of LPG is cheaper than diesel or petrol our costs for the rv is more or less the same as it was for the bessecarr, but at the end of the day the choice is up to you.

We've owned 3 RV's two were petrol one was diesel, covered approx 100'000 miles between the 3. The diesel mpg was between 12 to 14 the petrols mpg was between 7 to 10. Fantastic bits of kit if you can live with the running costs and the restrictions of the size. We'd have another tomorrow but they don't fit in with our travelling style nowadays. We're off to the states soon for a few months and will spend a week at the end of the trip in Tampa we'll have to pay Lazydays a visit to view the latest RV offerings can't resist.::bigsmile:

I've got a 1978 25' Class C RV. About 14mpg on petrol. 12mpg (i.e. 24mpg equiv.) on LPG. Not much worse than a diesel euro-box, except that it is exempt from most low emissions zones, has much better plumbing and has a much wider, more spacious interior.

On the other hand, I wouldn't buy one if you're scared of a bit of DIY. Parts are available, but sometimes slowly via the USA and a bit of engineering competence would be quite useful.

I should probably ask him before I import some wheels. Mine has obscure 16.5" wheels which require tyres handcrafted on the planet of Endor by eunochs. I'm thinking of getting 7 normal wheels shipped from the USA so I can buy normal cheap tyres without waiting for a passing space freighter to arrive.

One thing I will say about my RV given that I managed to blow the engine up, is that despite being 36 years old, you can still get a *brand new* (not reconditioned) engine built by GM in one of their factories (long block, with block, cylinder heads, 8 pistons, valves, the lot) from a UK supplier VAT and duty paid for £2000. Try asking Fiat what a new engine costs...

My 7.4 V8 Chevy on LPG gets 10 miles to the gallon @ £0.70 Ltr
= 20mpg same cost petrol.
It's 27 foot long

My 32 foot 6.5 Ltr Diesel gets 12mpg @ 55mph
If you have to worry about its MPG may be you should not have one
It's only money and we can not take it with us:ROFLMAO:

I had a Eurobox. Mercedes 409 5 cylinder 2.9 Turbo it returned 30mpg. But was 17.5 foot long. And light as tissue paper :ROFLMAO:

I shudder to challenge papjohns excellent advice and information but having run an lpg mh it has never been my experience to find lpg at half the price of petrol. The cheapest I have seen it is 69p. With petrol at 1.29p that makes lpg way more than half price.
When comparing costs of lpg with petrol the cost difference is minimal; with the reduced mileage on lpg compared with the higher mileage on petrol the difference was never worth mentioning.

If you are looking at a MH/ RV with lpg beware of after factory conversions there can be expensive problems if it has not been done properly
