 Just wondered how others think or feel about their motorhome showers. My other half has Multiple Syrosis and struggles to get around without her chair. One of the reasons we got the Dakota in the first place was that it had a separate shower and was hot enough, powerful enough with a good supply of water, for her who must be obeyed, to shower, wash, shampoo and condition her blonde locks in comfort and warmth:Smile:

With both the gas and electric switched on, the water heats up super fast, so we both enjoy a good hot shower without the need to step outside :thumb: frizerlous I know ::bigsmile:

We also picked the lounge layout so as to assist in getting her dressed in the morning with the freedom of space and comfort:thumb:

Isn't life good and all about choices too ::bigsmile::Smile:::bigsmile::thumb:

On the last motorhome very cheap Italian model.
We had a realy nice shower.
On our new exppensive { to us}Motorhome the shower is a bit too small.
But we still use it all the time.

But your right life is good.

At least we can go where we want when we whant.

And we just enjoy the fredom a MH brings.

:thumb: My thoughts exactly, but a few of my motorhome friends always use the site facilities wherever possible, but like we said, each to their own and life's about making choices........best one I ever had, was to get my motorhome and haven't regretted a single second of it either :thumb::thumb:

Strangely enough not only do we use the motorhome shower, we also use the loo and even wash up in the sink. I stopped wandering around campsites with a toilet roll under my arm and carrying buckets full of dirty dishes when I got rid of my tent .

Am amazed at how many vans I have seen when advertised say things like, oven, toilet, shower etc. never used. Mainly on German vans that are for sale I must admit. Why don't they save themselves some money and just buy a Tranny van and put a bed in it . The general reply is "We always use the site facilities". They obviously have a far greater bladder capacity than me .

To shower etc

SWMBO uses the cooker every day and I do the washing up at the site sinks. Its the best way of meeting people and making new friends. We both shower using the site facilities and the toilet is for night use only.

If you use aires it's either the MH shower or be smelly. On the odd occasion when the aire's got a shower block (eg Ile d'Oleron) I'll use that because I've paid for it.

I've used the shower a few times by pouring the contents of a solar shower bag over myself in there - that's a bit different.

I must admit I have always treated my motorhomes as my home away from home and am a little bemused that people are quite happy to walk 2 or 3 hundred yards to go to a campsite loo but if you said take away the indoor loo at home and go back to the days of walking down the yard to the thunder box they would be horrified.
Some of my extended family would not even have water of any description in a van, clean or dirty but that's more a cultural thing. I wonder sometimes if there are more Roms on here than would like to admit.

But not to be put down the black tank John. One of those things has just destroyed my macerator impeller.

Lots of the wet wipes say 'Flushable' but they are NOT. Water companies spend millions unblocking drains which have been blocked with these 'flushable' things. The last campsite I was at had notices asking people not to put them down the loo.

Never used the shower or toilet in ours..we will if we end up somewhere without them or with nasty smelly ones. Used the cooker loads but we also have an outside kitchen which we prefer to use in nice weather. We only use good sites though so the shower may not be used for a while yet.

Well this thread has given me a good giggle....still stuck with brinks n mortar, so i have all this to look forward too...

However, I am curious WHY you dont use your onboard shower?

Is it cause its crap? Would a better pump/head combo improve this to make it useable?
Or is it a water issue...eg. lack of...?

Same for the toilet too.....

Then i started thinking....how do you dump your grey water when on a site? you have to move the van to do it?....or just dump it on their er lawn!!

Is this the same for fresh water....gotta move the van to the point, fill up and vent?

The reason I ask is I plan to be fulltime in the van, but my work is fixed atm, so plan to be on a site for convenience...

Shower

Hi, The very first time in 2009 that we used a campsite shower, in the Loire area, we contracted Legionairres Disease. Even though it is myself that has underlying health problems, my wife was very ill and was off work for over eight months. We had five doses of strong antibiotics. For the first three months we were tested at the clinic (blood and mouth swab) twice a week and in between these a specialist from our local hospital in diseases, contacted us twice a week to check that we not getting any worse. Around the time we had Legionarries Disease, it was reported on the news that two people from Kent died from contracting it. We were told that if we had been over sixty, that we would have been sent to hospital and that approx 40 per cent of people who contract this, die.
Since then it has been motorhome shower all the time.
Showering in motorhome also helps keep a nice fresh smell in the van from the shower gel.

PS dumping grey water is easy, just use a bucket!

I always use the shower and toilet in the van.:thumb:

I cannot see the point of getting dressed in the morning to walk to a shower block, carrying towel and soapy shampoo stuff etc, just to get undressed again when I get there. Then to find the camp-site shower is wet, or dirty, has nowhere to hang my stuff and I have to push one of those infuriating buttons that gives me just 5 seconds of water at a time..........

In the van I can just get up from bed and pop straight in the shower. Once showered I can sit with just a towel on, have a coffee and ponder what Fun the day ahead will bring.
Our last van however did have the shower and toilet in one space which was a wee bit of a pain as it made the toilet area/floor wet as well. Our current van has the shower and toilet as separate spaces which is perfect.

If I wanted to use campsite showers and toilets and not the motorhome facilities, I might as well arrive with a tent.

We have no particular rules, if the showers are clean and warm then we will use them. On the other hand if they are iffy in any way then we will use the shower in the van. One thing though we always wear flip flops in public shower, in my OH opinion nothing is written in stone since we have retired he says that about most things.

I only ever use my van shower - I like having my own (slightly bling) shower room.

Shower is separate cubicle, spacious (for a motorhome), plenty of hot water from the boiler (gas/elec), water pressure is good, trigger shower head keeps water temperature pretty constant. I would not, however, want one of those 'wet room' showers in a van - too tedious having to wipe everything down all the time.

My van's fresh water tank lasts me for 5/6 days. If I'm staying somewhere for longer than that I just top up with my two 5L water containers and a flexible funnel. (Filler angle doesn't lend itself to a watering can which is what a lot of people use to top up).

For grey water I just use a bucket and leave van waste valve open. Easy enough to empty as and when necessary.

Motorhoming can be as simple or as complicated as you care to make it. ::bigsmile:

When I was looking for my new home, one of the things I wanted as a must was a separate shower. I was really surprised to see such large and expensive vans with a wet room and not a separate shower. The thought of having to wipe everything down each time I used it was a no no to me. Some had shower curtains that you could wrap around yourself, but that was also a no no as I pictured the said curtain sticking to a wet soapy body and a rendition of the hokekokee while trying to unwrap it again.

My aim therefore was a separate shower as I knew I'd be in it every day. Only wish I could get the fresh water to last for 5 days, but when the Frau has long blonde locks, it's going to be much less I'm afraid

I also fill up with a 20lt Jerry can and funnel, it doesn't take me long and it's good exercise too and I take the grey away in one of those 20lt lay down plastic jobbies with 2 caps.

Ya know life is sweet, but so much sweeter when I'm away motorhoming:thumb:

Safe motorhoming and driving too::bigsmile:riving2:

We use whatever is the easiest at the time.
The shower and toilet are seperate on our MH which makes it soooo much better, in our opinion.
At steam rallies there are often primitive facilities, so the MH is used all the time. Drives SWMBO mad when I arrive back from the beer tent at midnight or later, black as a coal miner, and proceed to shower myself. Well, I have to, or she won't let me into bed
If we are on a site which has good facilities we will use them sometimes, but if it is chucking it down outside, then it's the MH every time.
The toilet is there for a reason, so it gets used as necessary.
The oven, grill, hobs and microwave all get used as well.
Filling up with fresh water and getting rid of grey water is no big chore if you use the methods that have already been mentioned.

What's the point in paying out for all these things and then not using them ?
Being comfortable is what it is all about for us. As SWMBO says "I don't do canvas" The nearest she gets to canvas is when I put the awning out :ROFLMAO:
