I'm an oldbie MH number 10
Received a letter today from the MIB which is the Motor Insurance Bureau. They stated that according to them my vechile is not insured and does not appear on the register.
Obviously, I know it is but the instructions were If it is insured I must contact my insurance immediately in order to ask them why it does not appear on the register. It states that I will not show on the register of insured veciles. Subsequently this could lead to the police seizing my vehicle if found being used on the road.

Quite a frightening thought.

So I rang Safeguard insurance all in a tiz. The nice gentleman on the phone said " oh dear, thats right you are not on the register. When you renewed in December we had a little computer glitch and we have had a few phone calls from customers whom have had a letter. No problem sir, I will resend the information to MIB and DVLA immediately...

So if you want to check and be assured you are on the register please use the link below. It costs nothing and could save you the misfortune of being stopped by the police and telling them your insured when you don't appear on the database.

Ive been advised to keep both my letter and my insurance doccument with me untill such a time when I appear on the register. Probably about 7 days.

I had a similar letter a few months ago. I had been picked up on a camera.
A close look at my Saga insurance policy revealed they had my plate as an 08 and not an 09 !. Quick phone call , oh yes sorry about that we've entered the details wrong. Just shows , check every thing. Could have been 6 points and a fine:Eeek:

Extremely unlikey, in fact never as you have a valid insurance cover note and policy and no doubt proof of payment.

Could cause agro with the plod though unless you keep a copy in the vehicle.

I know its very unlikely but, if the policy was under a different registration number ,!!!
as you know any excuse.
Almost fell foul before, put the personal plates on and forgot the inform the insurance.
Could be a tricky one if you have a bump ?

Why do people continue to blame the computers. Computers do not make mistakes... EVER!.

computers follow their instructions precisely. Garbage in Garbage out. Either the company they paid to create the software messed up or one of their data entry people messed up.

The computer is innocent. Stop blaming the innocent computers it isn't fair on them :winky::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

got an email today after i sent off a stonker of an email about my motorhome re insurance
their lame response considering i renew before my old insurance had expired :RollEyes:

Hi Mr Fewster,

I understand you've had an issue with your vehicle not being on the MID. The process of confirming your insurance on the MID starts as soon as you renew your policy. The insurance company (Aviva in you case) are expected to place the vehicle on the database within a set period of time, which is 7 days.

However, it's normally done with 1 or 2 days, but there is nothing to worry about as even if the database does not show your car as covered, the police will check with your insurer before seizing your car to cover themselves against any errors.

I'm sorry that there appears to have been a delay putting your vehicle on the MID, but understand that has now been done. It's a very rare occasion for this to happen, but unfortunately the system is still open to human error.

started when I was 11 with my parents-forgot to stop!been real one since 1980!
For our cars we have a 'nautical' multi car policy and recently 'Horatio' cocked it up.
My daughter changed her car so she rang them to cancel the old car and put her new one on-'ok no problem'. A week later it pinged the local traffic cops ANPR as not insured, frantic phone calls followed.but they had to seize the vehicle, they did give my daughter a lift home. Then followed a day of phone calls and they admitted their fault and said they would repay out of pocket costs ie recovery fee and storage.
If stopped the police will contact a special number for checking policies, not all insurers do this and the law have to rely on MID it can take up to 2 weeks for a new policy to be registered.
The copper was very pleasant and understanding,my daughter got no penalties or points and did come in for some ribbing as she had a Citroen and the copper was on dodgy ground as his official vehicle was a KIA!
I have had issues with incompetent insurers who sell you a specialised policy but then leave it up to you to sort things out as its 'not their usual business apart from the claims office only open Mon-Fri 9-5!
I also had policies years ago with Fire Auto and Marine and General Accident who both went bust as well as buying through a broker who wrote out a cover note and 2 weeks later did a bunk!
