Up early to get Herman the Hymer into the garage for the MOT. Anxious wait now for the dreaded phone call. :Eeek::Eeek:

Yes it's always a worrying time isn't it. It's usually a big sigh of relief when it's through though. Be brave!:thumb:

Hope it goes well for you, but I have a question.

Why do you not stay with the vehicle and view the MOT taking place?

Is it because they dont have the facilities or that you trust the garage staff implicitly?

Good question, I don't know why we didn't stay. We didn't know what time it was going to be tested as they squeezed it in this morning after I pleaded with them on the phone late yesterday afternoon. But you are right, we should be less trusting, although the garage is a very well respected centre, a privately owned local business, not one of these big chains who don't really care about their customers.

good luck with that, I'm afraid after my experiences with garages in the past year I have lost my trust in evey one of them. I really do hope you have better luck.

started when I was 11 with my parents-forgot to stop!been real one since 1980!
MOT while you wait is worse than waiting for doctors, exam results or even a baby.
My previous Hymer 1992 544 only 'failed' once in 16 years of ownership, and that was a duff headlamp bulb. The process of a regular service paid off.

My late father in law owned a garage and had a sign in reception,which read;

"Charges £15 per hour,£20 ph if you watch,£30 if you say anything!"

Did mine at the local council depot, they dont do repairs so they are not looking for work.
It passed 1st time with a couple of advisories.

I also use the local Council MOT centre. I quite like the idea of a completely independent check on our vehicles. Usually have them serviced at the garage immediately before the MOT, however.

It's a bit of an inconvenience going to a separate place for the test, but it works for us. Oh, and I always wait while it's done - they have precise booking times for MOTs. :thumb:

However, if there is a failure it can cost more for the re-test, because you have to leave the premises for the repairs to be completed. And it depends on the nature of what's required as well. But willing to take that risk.

The mot

My eldest son has a garage and an MOT station. My youngest son works there and is also an MOT tester.
Due to height of MH I have to take my MH across the road to a competitor and pay full whack ! Now that does hurt.
But at least the car is a freebie and both passed OK.
But then both needed a tax disc and insurance, depleted bank balance!!

Never have a problem at my garage. He services it , repairs it and mot s it. Never a fail. It would make his servicing look bad. Most faults picked up at service and he is not expensive.

opps  must pay attention

a bit light will mean they arent as efficient as they should be and dont meet the correct efficiency percentage.

a simple brake service should correct that. :thumb:

Is that LIGHT or TIGHT??????

A bit light means they are showing too much white light through the lense
The red must have deteriorated to a point that the brake lights look white or not red enough
I saw in goodwins (a local pound shop) a stick on red lense for cracked or deteriorated lights for guess how much
You got it......A pound

Spot on - pappajohn. Colin rushed down there to check it wasn't the air-ride still up from being fully loaded last weekend and the mechanic re-tested but they were still not right so he is going to service them for us on Monday.

I have learn't something today anyway!
