My opinion for what its worth is remap but do it from a local reputable source that will hold your original settings in case you are not happy with the results. Most chips work by altering the times on the injectors and very little else - a remap is just that - it should take into account the size and bulk of the vehicle - its normal running weight plus any add on that affects air drag. It should then also take into account the 'normal' driving ie mainly motorway etc. The remap will then take in all aspects of the engine from throttle response to air flow meter - water temp - oil temp - as well as the injectors etc and literally remap the way the engine works - the result should be a more responsive more powerful engine and driven normally should return a better Mpg. No way an off the shelf fit all chip can do that.

Always remember you should notify your insurance company of fitting a chip - failure could result in finding you are uninsured in the event of an accident

Why do it if you don't know if you need it?, engine manufacturer has set up the engine for overall average use.

re mapping is not something your local garage could as normally done by specialist companies, if you bought a chip then yes they could fit it for you

You won't save money, if you use the extra power you'll lose a lot.

I had it done because ours needed lots of down changes on hills, now it pulls up hills much better. No change in fuel if I drive sensibly but when I first had it done I got carried away on my own on a trip to Scotland and got down to 20 mpg from a normal 25 mpg.

But if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
