sealing the edges of the roof (1 Viewer)

hello all
when the sun starts to shine and the rain stops for a few days .
i plan on resealing one side of the roof of my CI Carioca 656 roof edge . i have bought caraseal idl 99 to use .
i am basically asking for any tips on doing the job .
i have took some of the trim that covers the screws and am struggleling to get this back in , is there a tool for this or a special technique ?

if its what i,m thinking then there is a special tool to do the job.

similar to the tool to replace windscreen trim on screens with a rubber seal..

the most effective and common sealant/adhesive is Sikaflex 512 as used by converters.

no need to remove the screws as the panels will be bonded to each other and you will cause more problems trying to separate them.

simply rake out as much old sealer as possible then lay on a new bead of sealer and smooth over if desired...but converters usually just leave the 'overflow' without smoothing.

and if one side needs doing then it as sure as Sunday follows Saturday that the other side needs attention as well

Hi as John says the windscreen tool is fine :thumb:but you may find taking the screws out difficult as they tend to snap If you have not got a leak I would advise you to simply mask up both trim / van and run a seal down the edge :thumb: If you need to remove the trim be very careful as it bends very easy :Sad:

hey all i think iv uploaded pics .
there is like a ally trtim with rubber under both sides of the trim . so i presume that i have to tak the screws out then the trim then the rubber . then remove sealer and add more sealer.
there is a leak and quite a bit of damage .

I doubt very much you will get that trim off in one piece.....not only is it screwed, it will also be glued.

you need to apply sealant along the edges with the trim piece in situ.

I use the handle of a suitable teaspoon. It's a laborious job. Just feed in one edge of trim and then use the handle to tuck the trim under the other side. It helps to slightly stretch the rubber as you go but give it time to relax before you reattach the end.

Which year is your Carioca 656? Mine's a 2005 model which was subject to a factory recall for its faulty roof seal. We had it fixed twice under warranty and extended warranty, and it's leaked again this year, although the exact source isn't clear yet. Currently in for repair with our local fitter.

It's end of 2004. Just purchased it a couple of weeks ago. How do you find out if it should have been recalled or if it has been previously? Thanks
