In announcing his retirement from the football scene, Michael Owen paid a touching tribute to all those who helped him along the way, to the pinnacle of his profession, including this to his Dad..... ""Last but not least, my dad. We did it my old mate! From those freezing local parks to terrorising the best defenders in the world on the biggest stages of all. I couldn't have done it without you.".

Well said Michael, you brought me/us many hours of enjoyment over the years and you did so without violence/petulance and/or scandal...... enjoy the rest of your life you deserve all that you have achieved.

Just a thought do we all thank those who help us in life, particularly family........ and do we do it often enough ? I don't, must do better !

I'm a newbie
As a lifelong Liverpool supporter and long time season ticket holder I would like to say thanks to Michael for the immense pleasure he gave, not just for Liverpool supporters, but for those memorable goals against Argentina and Germany for England.
Enjoy your new life Michael.

About time to be fair - he has had so long on injury, it isn't doing his reputation or the club that pays his wages any good at all!

Nice bloke, and great player in his day - but that is long gone.
People were beginning to forget the good times, and see him as a financial liability on the bench. No player wants their career to end being remembered for that.

You made the right decision lad!
