Found the answer!

DOCUMENTS FOR ADAC COVER ARE NOW AVAILABLE TO VIEW OR DOWNLOAD ON THE DOCUMENT PAGE OF THIS WEBSITE. Sorry have had problems with this page but hope to re-instate it again soon, so for now contact me and I will email the relevant document to you with pleasure..

Seems worthwhile checking out as they offer cover for Europe including UK at under 100 euro compared with a quote I had from AA @ £210. This is for 12 months cover

Phone number for ADAC membership in Germany is 00 49 89 76 76 76.
Every one of the people I have spoken to understood English but lines are only open 09:00 to 17:00 (remember Germany is one hour ahead of the UK. I think they are also only open Monday - Friday.
If you fill in the application on their web site you have to tick a box if you want to pay by credit card. You then supply your email address - they email you a form which you complete with your card details and email it back (I just typed my name where it asked for signature). They then process the payment and email you your membership number.

Breakdown number

That's correct. Once a member the breakdown emergency number is 004989222222.

Apart from the excellent membership fee the cover is for the driver and partner regardless of which vehicle, (car, motorhome, hire car), is being driven.

Hope never to have to use them but will post on outcome if I do.

It might pay to do a search on ADAC on the forum threads to check out whether it gives you what you require.:thumb:

ADAC Update

Have now received my membership card and details. For 98 euro both my wife and I are members. The membership covers you as a driver not the particular vehicle so consequently you are covered anywhere in Europe and in any vehicle including motorhomes and hire cars.

The fact that your correspondence is in German should not put you off as there is a link to a translation on the web. I checked with a German colleague who read through it with me. She said that ADAC is good and similar to the AA.

The trouble with all insurance is we pay out a fortune and hope never to have to use it. The proof of good cover is when we do. How good and speedy was the service? Did they do what they said they would? etc. etc.

I hope not to have to use breakdown cover, but if I do I will let you know whether or not it was worth it.

Mmm I only ask as my Dad was a AA member for years and never used them once but then when he had an accident they refused to collect him:Angry: and it was only down to the tow truck driver arguing for him that he did get a lift home but only if he payed £150, he was livid and when I looked into alternative cover for him and said it would be £65 he was even more pi**ed off, he had been paying the AA £130 a year for years :Eeek:

Hi Tim, I know exactly what your dad went through as i am an ex AA recovery driver and had many of these calls to deal with, but unfortunatly, The AA are only a breakdown and recovery company after a breakdown and not after a road traffic accident as you are suppose to contact your own insurance company for recovery of your accicent damaged car, although the AA will recover you if you pay the fee of about £150, but you can claim this back of off of your insurance company and in fact the AA will claim for you if you have Full comp insurance so you dont have to pay anything at the side of the road now, but this will only be a local tow to the nearest gge or repair shop for storage or repair and does not cover for taking vechicle and driver home, this is what your insurance company is for to get you home ok, hope this clears up any misinterpretations that yourself/dad or any other UK resident has about breakdown and recovery in the UK, so this is why ADAC is very good to belong to as they recover to your home even if you have had an accident, more reason to become an ADAC member, Regards Garry Flatpackchicken

ADAC Membership - Beware of

Beware of ADAC. I have been a member for a number of years and praised them until recently. My motorhome broke down in Spain, great service from ADAC, quickly arrived and problem resolved at local garage after awaiting spare part for a number of days. When I got home; ADAC had given me one month notice of cancellation of my ADAC Plus membership because I had made requests for assistance more then once while outside Germany during my membership. I had also called them for a puncture in UK. ADAC informed me in writing that they were changing my membership from Plus to Standard ADAC membership, thus cover was for within Germany only. Standard ADAC membership is useless for anybody living in the UK and travelling frequently to France and Spain. Now trying to get money back from them for the months I had paid for membership. ADAC refused to discuss the action they took and questioned why I was not using a UK company for breakdown cover.

Those wintering in Spain and Portugal could find themselves without breakdown cover unknowingly should ADAC take similar action with them.

I would be very interested to know how this developed, I don't know of anything in ADAC terms and conditions which limits help when outside Germany. If there is does anyone know of it.
