Has anyone fitted one of these headlight upgrade kits H1 type?.

Prices seem to vary wildly from £20 odd quid, to £200 plus.

Any experiences/recommendations, good or bad, would be most welcome.

Xenons are only legal if the headlights are self levelling I believe. Some fit them and remove them for the MOT but will be dazzling everyone in the meantime.

You need to research it a bit, some headlight upgrades will damage plastic headlight surrounds, and as said, some can only be used with self levelling systems and I believe headlight washers, sorry i,m not being very accurate, but I dont like them so would,nt fit them.

You are very accurate:thumb:

and we qualify on both counts, dont we Geo......

so why dont they fit HID to the main beam as well as dip

i could live with the slight delay to full power. :thumb:

and in response to the o/p.

£20 will buy xenon bulbs...which are a direct replacement....but not HID bulbs.
the control gear/capacitor and wiring harness alone may cost £100 per side for a full conversion and another £30 per bulb.

the voltage needed to 'fire' proper HID bulbs is in the 1000's of volts hence the need for special power control units and can be fatal if touched without discharging the capacitor first when changing a blown/faulty bulb, yet the average power consumption when lit is only 45watts

standard Xenon bulbs will give the same blue light without the expense if you buy the 6400k version.
the higher the k number, the bluer the light but at the cost of brightness.

and if the bulbs aren't UV coated they will destroy plastic lenses and reflectors
