On radio this morning - France Bleu-Nord - the carriage of breathalysers in the vehicle is obligatory from today, 2nd March.

Initially penallties will not be imposed if you haven't got any on board...

But nothing in the papers yet...

Yes, it WAS shelved a couple of weeks ago... I was listening to the news this morning on the way to have new tyres fitted and there was just a brief announcement that they are obligatory from today... Got paper but no mention. Will keep ears & eyes open!

Latest we have is:
"Delayed for months by the government, the fine of 11 euros for non-possession of a breathalyzer will not appear in the Highway Code. The decree published in the Official Journal Friday by the Ministry of the Interior confirmed that "a motorist is required to have a breathalyzer in his vehicle" but removes any penalty otherwise".

So you must carry them, but there is currently no penalty if you do not.

Yep, that makes more sense - apart from that one mention on Bleu-Nord nothing else anywhere ...

There's a waste of plods time then.
Are they ever going to bother?
No incentive to ask you if you have one, and you could just answer yes.

Every motorist must carry a breathalizer in the vehicle.
Penalty for not carrying one has been abolished.
Driving with 0.25mg alcohol in breath is prohibited.
