I am planning a trip to Portugal soon and will be travelling down from Calais. Can anyone tell if diesel can be purchased in Spain and Portugal from supermarkets as it is in France? Also what are the current prices for diesel and are credit/debit cards readily acceptable in pain/Portugal?

nowhere near long enough
We have travelled down through Spain and into Portugal and as of yet not seen a supermarket selling diesel in Spain or Portugal but that does not mean to say there are none. There are lots and lots of normal fuel stations near to towns and villages and service stops on the motorways

Just as a rough guide we have been paying around 1.44 euros per litre and paying by credit card has not presented a problem to date

We have just paid 1.39-9....at a small Intermarche supermarket pump...I did not see the supermarket ????....and on the road side pumps it was around 149-9 ..1.51 euros..
and to answer the other question yes there are supermarket petrol / Diesel pumps in spain and Portugal....jumbo does seem one of the cheaper supermarket pumps.....you seem to see more supermarket pumps in France and a lot easy to get at like round abouts just outside towns
