Hi, Can anyone enlighten me as to the cause of the diesel leak off rubber tubes splitting at the ends. This has now occurred 3 times since last Sept. My 2003 2.1 HDi Boxer camper runs fine . Any ideas will be appreciated.

Find out if you have a commercial diesel specialist in your area ( you will know as he will service lots of company diesels and get them to fit their pipes they are usually a big reel of quality stuff

if they have been replaced and are either slightly too long or too short they get a strain at the end and split.
also not using the correct pipe for the job.

Are you using Jubilee clips?

DON'T

Use spring clips - they take up the shrinkage which Jubilee clips do not

that is very likely the cause of the leaks, but not the splits.
diesel is an excellent penatrating oil and will find its way through the smallest of gaps.
as suggested, use spring clips if the hose is fairly soft or clamp type clips, not jubilee clips, if its harder rubber

the splitting could the hoses are too small diameter and are being stretched over the metal connection nipples.

if the injectors are in good order there should be virtually no leak off and its not uncommon for the pipes just to be a push on fit without clips.
more modern diesels have hard plastic pipes that are heated then pushed on to an oversized barb then when they cool and contract they don't move or leak.

depending on the size of the pipe which i suspect will be around 6 - 8mm external you may struggle to find clips to fit although i remember ford escort vans being fitted with small spring clips on a braid covered rubber pipe on the leak off's of the injectors.

there should be no pressure on the leak off side if things but there may be back flow from the fuel tank return pipe where the leak off's connect to.
