Hi Frankie

So, strewth and strike a light is a bit of 'slang' for general exclamation of disbelief or shock, apparently starting in Australia, other similar ones are Strewth, crikey, bloody nora, strike a light, stone the crows. No idea where i picked it up from - probably crocodile Dundee films...or too much watching of neighbours in the 80's!!

And going for the jugular is defined as 'to attack fiercely in order to have no doubt about winning', so in this context i meant it as makem isnt messing about with this move from a caravan to a motorhome, most folk start off with something small and then build up to a big beastie, but not makem...straight in there with a van with all the bells and whistles!!

Hope that helps

Frankie

Don't worry about having to ask what is meant by a phrase, a little while ago you made a reference to 'staircase wit' - I understood the general meaning of what you were saying but didn't understand 'staircase wit' - not a phrase I've come across before but I didn't ask you at the time .... but earlier this week, I actually saw somewhere else entirely, an interpretation of the phrase

L’esprit de l’escalier (French): usually translated as “staircase wit,” is the act of thinking of a clever comeback when it is too late to deliver it

So it's not only you !

I too often suffer from a lack of it !
