Morocco 2013 (3 Viewers)

As the time nears for this "meet up". I thought maybe a good idea to start a new thread as the adventure begins. A big thanks to Dave (snowbird) who originaly started the idea and no doubt expected 1 or 2 vans to join him, oh:

We still have a potential 12 - 14 vans who will meet on Tuesday 15th January at Algeciras. Some are already in Spain and moving closer to the port town, others like myself are still in UK and making a mad dash, leaving within the next few days.

I know many Funsters will be following the thread and checking on our progress, so lets do our best to provide information, pictures, highlights and hopefully no tales of woe...

Good Idea Brian, I think many of us may already have "fun" stickers on the van and I have this printed already from past rallies.
Maybe I should have thought about it earlier and asked Jim to send me some stickers to hand out to people who dont have them.. !oh:

Just discovered a problem with Gwen's passport.
Visa requirements say expiry must be 6 months after entry.
Gwen's passport expires 2 July and we planned to cross 16 January so 14 days short of 6 months.
Anybody know if they are really strict on this?
Will a 20 euro note folded into the passport solve the problem?
(there are countries I have been to where 5 euros would be enough and others where it would get you locked up)

Cant help on that one...
The Gov website does say no visa but 6 months min on passport.

Maybe a quick email to the Moroc embassy ??
Or chance it and see what happens ?? Apparently the immigration is done on the boat, will they really count the months left ? They would maybe just stamp it or turn you around, so an expensive ferry trip...:Sad:

We had the same problem and emailed the Moroccan Embassy London, they replied immediately explaining if you have a UK passport you need at least 3 months on your passport. :thumb: I think its six months if you need a Visa.

Anybody know what the score is on importing alcohol to Morocco?
I know what the limits are (that would last me about 5 mins. Well maybe 10). But do people tend to stock up at Lidl before going or do they just stick to the limits?
Do the Moroccan Customs search your van on arrival looking for alcohol? Or are they like Admiral Nelson "I see no booze!"

From what i read they dont look to hard and everyone seems to take it in..
BUT. they ask if you have any guns..

They seem a tolerant lot, it's on sale in the supermarkets, it's served in restaurants. We were often asked for a beer by naughty Moroccans.

Which does not answer your question but gives an idea of the country. Which is Great !

Best to take booze and pork items in with you, as very expensive there... also worth a trip to Morrisons in Gibraltar beforehand for cheap spirits (£3.79 a litre of anything you fancy, as long as its unbranded!) We did the trip last January and no one searched the vehicle....

Have a safe and enjoyable journey.... looking forward to meeting up with you and all the others on 15th. All our last minute jobs on the van are "jobbed" and all that remains is to load her up for the trip.

My plans are for a month in Morocco as a "taster".... Not sure on all the others,, guess once we are over there people will all make their own decisions..
