What would be the best ferry/tunnel service to use to go to France?

Please bare in mind we are in Scotland so would have to drive either to England to sail.

Cheapest found last year by me was Dover-Dunkerque (DFDS) also for brother
(Leftlegger )in his van £37 each way up to 8mts late Aug and I mostly use this route as Brittany ferries are a rip off others may tell you of deals for this year

Just got our MH over the other day on the tunnel for £87 one way - was a very windy evening, so we were pleased to avoid the ferry!

to save the long drive plus diesel costs down to southern england why not use HULL---ZEEBRUGE. we have a quote for £240 travelling at weekend----book with caravan club and buy 10 camping cheques the cost works out at £139 plus your £240!!!!!!!! ( weekends on this route are cheaper!)

from us, in north yorkshire it is 310 miles to dover, so 620ish return which equals about 25 gallons of diesel approx £150 + a possible overnight stop! ( although there is an aire at the canterbury park and ride!! )

only then £90 extra from hull, plus you arrive in zeebrugge raring to go after a good night's sleep.

Lots of variables. Depends on where in France you are headed, time constraints, fuel consumption, whether you use aires or sites and how many miles you are prepared to drive.
For Eastern, Central ot Southern France we would use DFDS but for Brittany/western france have used britanny ferries & condor.

Did Dover - Calais ( B544 + me ) in March for £ 44 and Calais - Dover (B544 + 2) in April for Euro 59. Service was excellent.

Going Hull to Zebrugge is one option but an expensive one as you still have to get down to Hull and then once in Zebrugge you have to drive down to France from there, so on the whole you won't actually save much in terms of mileage compared to the cost, especially if you are intending to go to central/eastern France.

We use Eurotunnel simply because we have dogs and the crossing is the best for them, but also because we use Tesco vouchers which we convert to Travel vouchers to use on Eurotunnel (you get 3 times the face value of the original Tesco vochers which saves a lot of dosh!).

If you do decide on DFDS (The cheapest by far !) DON'T have the fried breakfast !! Even JJ would turn up his nose at it !! A travesty of the culinary art !!

Have tried P&O, DFDS, Transmarche and other ferries to get to France, but still find that the Tunnel suits us best.

It is more expensive, but for convenience and speed, not to mention no sea sickness, it is the tunnel for us!
