Got this email today is Barrons caravans opening again

Very interesting Billy.
It appears that motorhome dealers going bust is not a bad thing for them. If they are a limited company they suffer no financial hardship to themselves and it is far to easy to restart. Most bankrupt businesses do the same, just look at Bentley Motorhomes, no scrupples but us mugs, the customers, suffer big time financially.
Over the last 25 years I have signwritten the same vehicles for the same people but in various names as they go bust and restart. It must be very nice to build up massive debts, still hide plenty away, then go bust and start again with a clear slate.
When Barrons went bust there was a lot of talk in the trade that they would be back and I truly believe that. It just goes to show they have a good head for planning there pension pot, it's called the public trust and us motorhome nuts who give them our money.
When, and if they return' let us all remember to show our disgust by spending our hard earned cash at other places like John Cross.

Did Barrons go bust? Or were they taken over by Discover (who then went bust)?

Barrons became Discover then went bust.
The Barron family actually have a very reliable motorhome business in New Zealand. We experienced there customer service whilst touring over there a couple of years ago.
They appear to offer the traditional customer help out there, reliability and care, pity they moved out there to do that.

I thought Barrons where bought out by Discover as well , My first van was Barrons in Coppell, then it went to Discover, my second was from Discover Darlington ex Barrons, so we will wait and see what happens. Pete

Unfortunately in business it is not easy to pick and choose your customers. I DO NOT and NEVER will agree with this practice but it is a massive problem and the government are fully aware but turn a blind eye.
We have also been on the receiving end of bankrupt customers and in 25 years have lost over £48,000 which can never be retrieved. In most cases we receive possibly 1p in the pound after the government have recovered there bit and the administrators have there tidy lump for handling the bankruptcy.

A caravan dealership site has been bought from administration, with the new owner looking to return it to its heyday when it employed 100 people.

Family run Kimberley Caravans & Motorhomes said yesterday that it had bought the former Barrons site at Burtree Gate in Darlington.

The site, for which it is paying an undisclosed amount, will reopen next month having closed after its then owner Discover Leisure went into administration in October.

It is the first expansion to a second site for managing director Chris Lowe and his father Michael, who founded the Nottinghamshire based firm in the 1970s.

The family-run business currently has an outlet just off the M1, with an annual turnover of £5m.

Having exchanged contracts just before Christmas the deal for the site is expected to be completed next week, with Chris Lowe taking over its day-to-day running, while his father will run the family's existing facility in the Midlands.

Chris Lowe said the firm had been looking to expand for some time, but it was the historic reputation of the Darlington site which sealed the deal.

"We were aware of its history. Before it was Discover Leisure it was Barrons and when it was Barrons it had a brilliant reputation and it was very busy."

"We know that the branch has many loyal customers, going back to when it was part of Barons, who will appreciate the care and attention of a family-run business."

When Discover ran into difficulties it employed around 60 of its 250 workers at the site, but Mr Lowe was confident they could eventually surpass that figure.

He said: "It has been difficult to know how many to start with. When we open in February we will be employing 25 people, but as the business becomes established again we hope to build that number up quite quickly.

Discover blamed a decline in demand for leisure vehicles for its woes but Mr Lowe said he didn't recognise that as a problem.

"Our experience is that the industry as a whole is very strong and I think the North-East is a very strong area for caravans and motor homes," he said.

"The economy is tough at the moment but from our experience, both through our existing site and our attendance at national exhibitions, we know caravanning is booming."

We bought our first van at Barrons at Darlington. They were OK but it did take a little while to get some minor after sales servicing carried out. We never visited the site when it was Discover but called in at the new Kimberley business a couple of months ago and they seemed fine. AFAIK the Kimberley business has nothing to do with either Barrons or Discover, just bought the site.

we bought our first van at Barrons (York) around 8 years ago.......still waiting for the replacement roof vent fly screen.

bought our last eurobox at Cleveland motorhomes and they later sent us a complete roof vent even though we didnt need or ask for one oh:
