Looking to carry a 120kg scooter

3500Kg = Maximum you can weigh at any given time
4500Kg = Maximum Train weight fully loaded to 3500 and towing up to a max of 1000Kg
1 1750Kg = Front axle weight absolute maximum
2 2250Kg = Rear axle absolute maximum
You will note that adding them together gives you 4000gk this is normal it does NOT mean you can run at 4000Gk unless you uprate the 3500Kg to 4000Gk

Looking to carry a 120kg scooter
Thanks for the offer Brian ...blooming cold out there today ,but I will do the measurements, thanks KimDue to the overhand that scooter and carrier is going to add a good 200kg to the back axle.
All guesswork 'till you weigh it. Might as well weigh it empty then you can be sure of the figures.
You end up with something like a bottle of milk in the back and all the rest on the bed. What weight pushes down on the back axle also raises the front, so the front can be scarily light, not good on FWD.
If you provide the distance from the back axle centre to the centre of where the bike will be and the wheelbase we'll soon do the sums.

Give wheel base as 3.75m and rear overhang 1.74m say 2m to centre of scooter load.
so a 150kg load would add 150+(150*2/3.75)=230kg to the rear axle load I reckon

And this is why few MHs are seen with scooters on the back.
I am going to take off that filma bike rack (nearest I will ever get to riding a bike is if it has an engine) and buy this

Fit on
Weigh it all and see if I will be going away by myself and leaving Julia to some peace
There is one more very important load to be considered.
Look in the vehicle handbook to find the maximum download that can be carried on the rear of the van (often in the range 100 to 200kg).
It seems to me that the weight of this combination will be far to large for your van.

So if you want a scooter/motorbike, a trailer it is then .Thanks for everyone's help and advice .
Happy Christmas to all, Kim and Julia

Like a nose weight ,Highbridge said 80Kg was mentioned somewhere..so I stood on the tow bar...and it never broke.
Thanks ,but as Chausson owners know the "handbook" is full of all the things you don't need to Know and very little of what you do.. Eg technical specifications . Now in contact with the manufacture in France and once I have some useful information from them I will post ,thanks again Kim

Does this plate indicate I can only tow 200Kgs?!
What does the 3rd figure mean? Is it to do with the tag axle on my 748?
Yes, it means you an tow a small camping trailer - other than that, forget you have a towbar!
It is a common trait with tag axle vehicles. They can have more wieght on the vehicle, but tow alot less. You can look into downplating, though it can get complicated with tag axles.

Yes it can.:Blush:this give some info on how to read a weight plate:
Broken Link Removed
Question: as the motorhome has a MTPLM of 5000kg, and a GTW of 5200kg, if the motorhome itself isn't loaded to the 5000kg limit, can the excess be transferred to the weight of the towed item? For example if the motorhome in 'fully loaded trim' (ie all kit, food, clothes etc and people on board) only comes to 4500kg, would that make the GTW 700kg instead?
For some reason I've gone 'blank' on the answer to this!
