I've seen it or very similar before somewhere and it struck me, just how many people have cameras in their windows.

I take it you never were unfortunate enough to own a Lada then ::bigsmile:

Second class ride is better than a first class walk, I had a Lada, fantastic in the winter months heater gets so hot and had a basically Fiat engine and never let us down.

farmer Boris obviously had one under has mobile hay rick. :roflmto:

Many years ago against my wishes my mother bought one new. She drove it home and said she thought there was a problem with the steering. She never drove that car again when I told her that's how they all were. She rang the dealer who sold it to her and got them to come and collect it.

It's quite common in Russia and China, plus other countries that the insurance company insists on a camera being installed. One reason is the large amount of people that throw themselves in front of cars for insurance claims and another is because of fraudulent claims.

I used to drive an old Moskvitch van - built like a tank but very comfy to drive::bigsmile:

Rob
I remember those things. The van was ÂŁ550, the saloon ÂŁ650 and the estate ÂŁ750 new, if I remember right. There was a dealer close by us and then they went over to the Polonez dealership. That was another disaster :Eeek:

Well if you do go over, remember not to drive above 55mph on any roads, and like india and china a lot of roads away from towns are no more than a hard dirt surface with a bit of stone, concrete or tarmac thrown over them and are very pot-holey

Spent 5 days in Moscow when the wife was working there:

1. the standard of driving is horrific, undertaking on the hard shoulder is the norm
2. park anywhere and that includes double & triple parking
3. obviously no MOT a lot of cars are falling apart
4. Every car is absolutly was filthy
5. Every brand new BMW with blacked out windows is a goverment car and was pristine and no one got in there way !!!!
6. If Putin was flying out they closed the motorway to the airport for at least half a day causing traffic chaos
7. Most cars are dented
8. Luton vans cruise the streets with one side having a very narrow shop window and a hatch in the back to serve from, they only sold booze !!
9. Our hotel was a big tourist type, armed guards on the doors with airport type scanners, casino & bar on ground floor, strip club on first floor and we were accosted by skimpy dressed girls in reception selling entrance tickets ( if only I was by myself )
10. It was the end of winter and the snow was melting and as it did it uncovered 1000's of empty can and bottles where they had been thrown

Would we go to Moscow again Errrrrr NO

St Petersberg was just superb:thumb:
But we would not go to russia again and the very thought of driving a MH there........

not quite at least over here they do flatten the surface before putting the tarmac down, so we get a pretty smooth ride, rather than it being so undulating as it is over there

Alot of eastern european countires give you a driving experience you will never forget!

Though most are very friendly, I did feel 'watched' in Russia, there was a chap (very nice though!) from the 'Department of Tourism' who followed you around, and you had to put your itinary past him every morning. He would tell you where you could go and couldn't go. This may have been for your own security, but it did make us feel that it was more for their own.

It may have changed now, after all the curtain had not been raised for very long, and they may have been a little 'twitchy' - but the driving will no dounbt be just as bad as it was then! Pretty scary - would I go in a motorhome ? No way....not unless it was something like a Zil conversion anyway!

Interesting place though - plenty of communist reminants around that are fascinating having learned about them at school - quite a priviledge to see what you never thought you would. They have an atmosphere about them. Some of the cars are fascinating too!

4 and many as a tugger
I spent a week in Moscow about 15 years ago and absolutly loved the place.
The hotel was full of guards and my customer would not let me out alone.
Done a runner one night and ventured out on my own, I came up from the subway and my minder was waiting for me in the car. Never did find out how he got there.
I have travelled all over the world and never felt un nerved, but Russia did rattle me a little. Facinating place and well worth a visit.
