Welcome to the Fun.

What will you be looking for from the campsites you stay on?

Peace and quiet or action with swimming pools, bars and restaurants?

One thing for sure... Which ever type you like you will get lots of first hand information here...

Hi,and welcome,
When it comes to sites for winter every one has their favourites ::bigsmile:
We stopped at Bonterra Park in Benicassim 'for 2 nights' on our way to Benidorm-we have now been here 7days and are not leaving until Next Tues  cos we like it here.
This is our first 'wintering in Spain' and I guess the first time needs to be a bit of a flexible thing to find out what you like and don't like.
We're going to Villa Sol in Benidorm next, then on to Marjal (Catral) in New year for 3 weeks.
After that we're not sure-we'll probably end up in Zahora and maybe Chickenrun in Portugal.
We've not booked anything and we have till end of March-hopefully we'll find one site that we'd like to spend all winter on-at the moment Bonterra Park could be the one-nice crowd here who come every year and are very welcoming.

Mike.

many thanks. we're looking for somewhere fairly quiet but with some things to keep us occupied - bar - food - etc', so not too quiet. We both like the coast so coastal would be good. it would also be great to have company around so we could socialize:Smile:!
any advice welcome!
cheers

Have a look at the Algarve coast which sounds like what you prefer Link Removed.

We have stayed at Ria Formosa near Tavira, it's a big site though, but handy for shops and a nice walk to the village of Cabanas.

Enjoy, we may meet some time.

Just a thought, Portugal faces the Atlantic weather, eastern Spain does not. Which is why many of us go hide from the weather in places like Benidorm.

we can recomend EUROCAMPING at OLIVA, just round the corner from benidorm, good size pitches, a nice mix of nationalities and even when full, it does not seem too cramped, unlike bonterra park, where you have far too many long stayers---ok good for supermarkets, but beach poor, and town a bit spanish run down! Oliva is far more bustling, also with good supermarkets.

we can also recomend CAMPING JAVEA at JAVEA, also just north of benidorm--always lots of space---good for getting around, although Javea is like england in the sun!!

south of benidorm can also recomend CAMPING COSTA BLANCA--smallish, good location, but again gets full of long stayers.

avoid LA MANGA like the plague---head south to near CARTAGENA, some wonderful sites here, also at ISLA PLANA---heated outdoor pool all winter--water changed daily.

If you fancy the COSTA DEL SOL--do something different and go to a super small site called CAMPING NERJA, just outside nerja at a "whitewashed" village called MARO!

For PORTUGAL, we really can recomend 2 sites TURISCAMPO near LAGOS--brilliant--the pool complex is as good as a 4/5 star hotel, pitches are good as are san facs. Also worth trying is ORBITUR QUARTERIA---good site with lots of walking along a lovely flat prom as far as Valdemosa!!

both spain and portugal are clamping down on wild camping, particularly on prom car parks, and other spots near the sea---although on the algarve do try BOCCA BEACH--you will still get away with it here
