I fell in love with motor caravans/motor homes when I was eight and got my first one when I was 23.

Before I retired I often used mine for my work as a "jobbing" entertainer sometimes staying in it after a booking. It was never just a holiday vehicle for me.

When my marriage came to its amicable but inevitable conclusion, the other "Three Quarters" and the "offspring" stayed in the house and I moved into the motorhome where I have been ever since.

Now retired, I am sometimes allowed to help out a Portuguse friend of mine (Luis De Matos) from time to time with his various shows. (http://luisdematos.com/)

His current "gig" is a twelve night run of his "Chaos" one man (!!??) show at the super, modern theatre in the Lisbon Casino.

The "Team" are driving to and from the Casino, three and a half to four hours each day but there was not enough room in the vehicle for the "Old English Man".

Rather than hire a car they asked me "Would it be alright if you stayed in your Hymer JJ?"

"Well, I will need somewhere safe to park not far from the venue..."

When you are helping one of the country's favourite stars (I sweep the stage) things get sorted out for you. The Casino people have arranged (with my people :ROFLMAO:) a secure, locked park up for me (in a coach park) and have entrusted me with a key so I can come and go as I please.

It is next door to the beautiful Oriente train station, three hundred yards from the Casino (I have one of those plastic security cards which you need to get into, and to move about inside, the place) and a short stroll from the huge Vasco Da Gama Shopping Centre complete with its BurgerKing...

I think it is another brilliant way to enjoy a motorhome.

(Anyone want to borrow a seventy seater coach?)

JJ

Spent a 'magical' evening very close by in early October watching Leonard Cohen at the last gig of his European 'Old Ideas' tour at the Pavilhao-Atlantico. Truly stunning performance in a stunning venue.

We didn't get access to the luxury coach park of course, had to make do with two nights at the Tryp Oriente (got a bargain) just round the corner.::bigsmile:

Absolutely disgraceful that [STRIKE]there was not enough room in the vehicle for the "Old English Man"[/STRIKE] you have to stay so close to a Burger King. Has Portugal no Human Rights Act? :ROFLMAO:

Sadly Graham, it seems that Mrs Miggins has not expanded her canned pie shops into Portugal yet.

I am up to 23 years now. Was going to pack it in when the idea of job share came up with another guy who was thinking of giving it up.
We do alternative trips so instead of the 2 weeks on 3 off we now do 2 on and 8 off.
He has his caravan and i have the motorhome, suits us both.:thumb::thumb::thumb:

Talking of North Sea Oil Rigs :Eeek: - Oriente Station by Santiago Calatrava - Spanish architect, sculptor and structural engineer, I love it and much of his other work.

For a building it's an outstandingly beautiful piece of sculpture.
