when buying a motorhome new or used we tend to look at the interior,storage,kitchen area,what bed,towbar,etc, How many of us look underneath the vehicle. I looked at a 2007 lunar roadstar today and it ticked all the boxes. When I checked underneath (double skin floor) what a shock to discover the plywood flooring was not treated and you could push your fingers into it. Why dont they under seal these vehicles before they leave the factory,or is this the norm thing. Any ideas how much to repair this IF i bought it.

The very FIRST place I look is under the bonnet, listen to the engine etc, and then look at chassis.. if it don't pass muster there i wouldn't even venture inside..

As advised, run away, who knows what horrors lay beyond the flooring.. Labour costs about £50 per hour.. and in my estimation, that work would take several days to do properly..

All mine are thouroughly checked inside, outside and underneath, we even have a rolling road to check braking efficiency.

My fitters are fussy to what they put their name to!

They don't underseal them as the wood needs to 'breathe' to dry out as it gets wet on the road. It is treated wood, but will never last forever, it's only ply. When you underseal, you have to maintain it thoroughly - any chip or scratch will break the barrier, and when moisture gets between the sealant and the wood, it will rot like there is no tomorrow.

If a second floor, then it is nothing to worry about and simple enough to replace. If it is the main floor, then a different matter. Underseal the chassis legs by all means - these things are made from commercials which don't have any protection - so it would be worthwhile - but I would advise to allow the wood to breathe - maybe protect with a wax or similar, which allows breathing but reduces the ability to soak in water.
Thompsoin water seal would be a good choice, as you can visually inspect as it is transparent.

Hi GO's I Can tell from your post you like the van probably no change out of 5k plus done by a dealer assuming you can find one to do it.
My personal opinion van price over 20k point out floor and offer less than 10k not a penny more or save yourself grief and look for another
