Hi Everyone

Decided to go Castleton (CC) in Derbyshire tomorrow in the MH. Can any one recommend a few good walks in the area and a good pub.

Up Lose Hill and along to Mam Tor and back through village. Several good eating pubs in the village.

We really like the CC site at Castleton. There are plenty of eating places in the village, we particularly like the Swiss Cottage. Just on the outskirts is the Speedwell Cavern and up through Winnats Pass there is the Blue John mine.

I think the exciting bits of that area are either high above or below ground.

There are a few caves worth visiting.

Get yourself an OS map and start walking, if your going to wild camp (which I reccommend) then a good place is to head out along the main road to winnats pass but keep going till the road ends. Short walk back to castleton for the pubs.

Thanks again everyone. We're here now all set up. Been into Castletown for a short stroll, lovely place. Back now and just about to have a pint or 2, not the wife, she's got some fancy red wine!
Looking forward to a days walking tomorrow.

Hope all isn going well

I agree with above suggestions, the walk along the ridge to Mam Tor is one of our favourite walks

This is an alternative up Cave Dale

Treak Cliff Cavern is interesting also.
A Carol service is held in The Devil's Arse Cavern, along with a brass band concert.
I think it's held in the main cavern, reputed to have been the devil's dining room.
Never been at Christmas time, but the Carols jobbie is on the "some day" list.

Agree with Cavedale and Mam Tor and Lose Hill walks. Make sure you also walk the old disused road at Mam Tor. Makes you appreciate the great power of nature.
