Been looking at motorhomes online and we both like the Rapido 7099f.
We have seen one for sale year 2006 engine 2.8, but the mileage 35,227.Not being too mechanically minded is this about average or should we be a bit cautious.

Just under 6000 miles a year seems about average to me. As long as it has a full service history then if you like it go for it.

I agree, we bought our van new in 2008 and have 29K on the clock. I don't think it was run in until we had 20K under our belts. 35K for a 2006 is good.

Diesel engines like any other engine are not deigned to sit around for months on end. I would far prefer a high mileage vehicle that has been properly maintained than a low mileage one that has been sitting around for 6 years with an oil service every 2 years as the owner thinks it doesn't need it. Modern diesel engines are expected to do hundreds of thousands of miles and one that has in effect done less than a years worth of mileage in 6 years is hardly run in. If the rest of the van is in good condition 35000 miles is nothing to worry about. I have a diesel car with over 150000 miles on it and expect it to do at least the same again.

Since 2011 therefore I'm not a newbie anymore
Had my van for 11 months and will have done around 6500 miles in the year!

Looking forward I can see I will be doing this level of milage each year.

We love the van and are fortunate to be able to use it frequently abroad - retired now!

Better to use it than just standing around depreciating and building up potential problems.

These van bases are designed for 80-100,000 miles per year use!

If you like it go for it!

Cheers

Bob

If it was a 2006 van on the same chassis and engine you would expect to see at least 150,000 miles and still have buyers :thumb: 36k just run in no worries.

All the best Rick

Mileage is important, in the UK, when you come to trade. Dealers will give next to nothing for high mileage Motor Homes.

I was looking to trade my 2003 Mercedes Hymer Starline 640, with full leather, Gaslow, Solar Panels, SOG, Oyster Vision, 2kw inverter, etc, etc, etc., with full service history.

It had done 91,000 miles, so was only worth, to them, £12,500.

Anywhere in Europe it was worth €30,000. as they don't worry too much about mileage, only condition.

That is correct Pete....different over here...they know how to use a motorhome, well they have been doing it for years.......its is a brit thing.... only because the dealers know the customer wants a low mileage van......10 year van with 3,550 miles ...means the van has been stood for 9 3/4 years and never used..or they have just been running up and down the drive and camping in the garden:winky::winky: to impress the neighbours:winky::winky: . I am in the Snowbird stable.....it is not a good thing to leave a motorhome standing and not in use, better to use the engine and service regular....keep changing the oil .....

Mines a 2010 and has done 27k, its a shame that a bad view is taken of vans with what is still in commercial terms a very low milage, a dealer I have known for many years tells me the habitation equipment is much more likely to give trouble on hardly used one than it is one that is used on a regular basis.
Van dealers describe panel vans with 100k on the clock as low milage !!
