Snow chains. (1 Viewer)

We are starting to get ready for our trip to Spain, departing the U.K. early December. Hopefully we will not be subjected to adverse weather conditions but we would like to be prepared for any eventuality. So, can anyone recommend a set of snow chains suitable for use on our Fiat Ducato motorhome, tyre size is 215 / 70 R15.

Hi, Brisey I saw some in Costco last week had a quick look they were about £46 seemed good quality not quite chains but very robust polythene type have a look on their website:thumb:

Make sure you get commercial grade ones, Brisey.

You need at least 16mm chain links! Avoid the 9mm car-spec ones!:thumb:

Can't really vouch for their durability, we only used them to the service point and back!

But they are made of real chain and have a few spare links in the rather nice carry bag!

If you're fitting traditional chains then get some gloves and maybe even a kneeling pad, trust me you' spend quite some time down on your knees when fitting them, 30mins plus.

Not sure where on a UK - Spain trip you'd need chains to be honest ? Pyrenees or Alps then OK but on the Autoroute heading South I'd be very surprised.

Well Brisey I can't help you with chains , but if you cross my country , this should help you to find the right roads to take in case of snow

If you're heading through central France to the south coast you may not need chains...or anything else come to that!

evidently, much of the massif central is often snowbound in winter with the roads closed.

the French dont appear to make winter road clearing a priority and the higher routes may be closed for days at a time...even the autoroutes.

Saying that, I know that on some roads and on some dates it is complusary to carry snow chains.. We went through somport tunnel on the way down to Marjal back in January... Sure I saw a sign then about snowchains....
ps. dont tell Ambilkate... shh. !!! they were following me in the snow !!oh:
