Oddly, just had the same quote myself.. and when I said what would it be if I supplied the kit, he said £120..
The full kit costs £70 trade so I am well pleased ( except I THEN found out the belt change period for my particular model is 80,000 miles or 10 years !! So no need to get it done just yet anyway )

Caravan since 1970, motorhome or RV since 1999 then back to a caravan in 2017.
I had the belt on my, now sold, Hymer 694 changed by Mark. Excellent service at a good price and he also adjusted the clutch and serviced the starter motor. He has room to park, the night before he does the work, with electric and an outside water tap. He also had a courtesy car and we went down to a large garden centre next to a marina near Preston. Wonderful place but had a call from Mark to say he had finished the work before we got to eat!

Shame Mark is too far for a lot of folk ... All I am saying is, that £225.00 seems to be the correct price, so perhaps it will be worth Camo shopping around a bit...

Even the Pug main stealers themselves only quoted £340 to do the job

Independant Garage circa £225 PLUS VAT any less and I'd be concerned, either quality parts or full kit are not being used or the apprentice is fitting it in his lunch Hr:ROFLMAO:

As for yours Mr Jaws 80000 or 10 years Brave Soul:Cool:
Geo
Ps Did it inc water pump:Eeek: be even more worried:Sad:

Well, its like this.........

As you know I do bikes.. Blackbirds to be specific.. I always recommend owners to stick to the recommended service regime.. We have now got about 16 bikes we look after that have got more than a million miles on them.. all original engine internals apart from cam chains which average around the 250,000 mark ( all documented and a couple of em have been in main stream mags )
one of the most common things I get is customers who want to change the oil every 4 k miles.. Honda recommend 8k miles, and that is what I do..
I tell customers that the guys who designed the engine new a bit more about it than I do, and I would not 2nd guess them.. It seems to work pretty well too :winky:

So it would be kinda wrong of me to go agin my own advice and take what Pug recommend for my engine as being wrong

As an aside, the 2.8 boxer in the Pug is the only one with that service interval.. The Fiat version is considerably shorter.. And yes, the part numbers are different !

Water pump service interval ( which I was amazed to find it had one in the first place ! ) is 250k miles or 10 years, which ever comes first

Can you not integrate the cambelt into a holiday? Go down south, have a break and pop the van in for belt/pump/tensioners whilst you spend a day in a travel lodge or similar and spend the rest of the week christmas shopping?
