just found out I can go away till the weekend.
I live in manchester and I don't want to go too far.I'm thinking of the Lakes or north wales-ish.
Any ideas for a cheapish rural site where I can listen to the birds and go for walks?

If you only need basic facilities, try Miller's Field at Ambleside.
I haven't got the contact details at hand - just google Millers Field :thumb:

thanks

Thanks a lot for these suggestions.
It's a toss up between Gillside and miller's field.
In the summer I stayed at Turner hall Farm , Seathwaite which is in a lovely setting but on one night I was the only camper in the whole place - a large and secluded site that was utterly peaceful but I have to admit I felt a nervous/vulnerable.
Am I likely to be the only one staying at either of these two above?

Lakes

The C&CC site at Braithwaite Fold, Bowness is currently cheaper than either of the two sites quoted above - but only for a solo member with age concession.

The area looks stunning right now - leaves changing colour, water shimmering in the sunshine, and views for miles. Good weather is forecast to continue until Thursday.

Have fun.

Not at Gillside it's quite busy which is why it's best to book and it's only 5 minutes walk to Glenridding , it's a great site step out of your van turn right and your on the path to Helvellyn turn left and your on the path to the Travellers Rest a very nice little pub :thumb:

Also though I have never stayed at Millers Field I did have a look at it in the Summer and it was very busy too and right in center of Ambleside so whatever you choose you will be perfectly secure and safe .

Have a great weekend :thumb:

Why not come to Glossop and stay at Windy Harbour Farm Hotel - nice quiet campsite attached to the (also quiet) hotel! It's out on the Woodhead Rd north out of town centre.
Not many of us here :roflmto:

Well eventually made it to gillside.
Big big thankyou.Perfect Just what I wanted.Camped right by river that roared all night.Had breakfast in sunshine watching the river and birdies- saw a sparrow like bird with brilliant white breast which I couldn't identify.
Had several fab walks and the weather was brilliant.

Met guy with a 97 autotrail Cheyenne on site. What a belting m/home that is.It was in fantastic nick-I think I want one!

I would highly recommend this site but shh! only tell a few close friends!
blamehofman, I shake your hand!!::bigsmile::thumb:
