Last night I parked in a newly discovered "aire" by the riverside in Coimbra.

I was one of two vans.

In the "morning" I wake up to find myself surrounded by motorhomes... all Portuguese.

It doesn't take long to realise this is some sort of "Meet".

One thing leads to another and I am now the very first (fully paid up) International Member of the AAP. (Associacao de Autocaravanismo Portuguesa). Quite a new organisation I believe.

Already I see "Exchange Meets," Twinning Trips and the like with me leading a convoy of vans to a campsite I know in Wales for a Big Chiefs' Pow Wow.

Well done JJ-we know the feeling well ::bigsmile:
At Furadore (we think thats where it was) we ended up among 200 vans at the 8th annual rally of a Portuguese Motor Home Association-great fun,but they didn't offer us membership.

Stayed there the other night, with a goodly crowd::bigsmile:. the spot is advertised on someones blog as "west of the city wall near to the harbour"...........as you ahve said "outside the fire station" would have been a better description:ROFLMAO:

i have always liked peniche .we often stop over at super turbos just out side the town . you might recognise this pic .
been going there since the 70,s . its a surfers paradise.
another good place is right out on the coast above peniche through baleel and up to foz de arelho can get a bit bumpy but theres some great beaches out there and fantastic surf .
get water in the toilets in the town .sometimes they let you fill up at ther fire station . if your lucky .
once saw a ship crashed into the rocks out by the sardine factory . hell of a storm that night . but great town .
