Many apologies RANGITIRA, correct spelling I hope,BRASSO the must nuts!
When I bought my van the paint looked a little flat and had lost its shine,I had been quoted between 400 and 600 pounds to restore a factory shine to my van,however after some research on this site I decided to have a go myself.People had said brasso did the job on patches but never tried it on full van so I thought what the hell got to be worth a shot.
Just started doing 1 foot square patches and results were instant not like painting something where you can easily forget where you've already done.The area was free of the speckled grime that washing can't shift.I can honestly say that if I could figure out how to clean the plastic around the lockers and vents it would pass for a much newer van.Any recommendations on plastics welcome. Finally one last ask,do I need to seal this with anything?

I would be inclined to go over with a good "Wax Polish"...:thumb:

For the plastics why not try "pierre vert" (Green Stone but really a white volcanic type paste)? It's available in Leroy Merlin but don't know if you have that chain in UK. Maybe a good Do it yourself outlet will stock it and it's only about 5 Euros for a tin which lasts ages.

Not only have you taken the muck and grime off the paint, you've also taken off the top of the paint and any wax that was there so a good wax polish should reseal it.

Would cheap toothpaste do the same job? Hubby has used it on the acrylic windows before and it's removed all the scratches (done carefully of course!) so I suppose it could work on the bodywork ... not the 'whitening' type though as it has bleach in it!!!
