I've looked a few times and found only one described as "lively" to the NE of the city almost hiding under a motorway ( or something like that ), didn't look too attractive so we've never done it by MH.

Looks like you may have to go in by public transport.

There is an Aire on the harbour at Almere Haven that is a beautiful spot, cafes and bars all around. The bus station is a 2 minute walk away and the bus takes less than 30 mins into the Dam Square.

Hi we stayed in Amsterdam with mh 2 years ago, the site we stayed on was http://www.campingzeeburg.nl/ although not a site you would use for a two week holiday it was fine. The mh/caravan pitches had hook up and free wifi.

The site was really busy with tents and loads of youths on the tent feild as it was July when we went also loads of families and couples, there was no trouble or noise and security was very good they had someone on the gate and if you didnt have your pass you had no chance of getting in. It was about 5mins walk to the tram and about 15mins by tram to city. They had a wee shop selling fresh bread and groceries also had a small bar on site didn't use it so cant comment. Also had a hire shop for boats and bikes.

If you need anymore info on it just ask

Gerry

There's a Dutch site that lists most of the dedicated camper places. Here's a link to the only one that is listed there for Amsterdam (Osdorp): Broken Link Removed Click on the link/place name at the top for more details.

As suggested above, you may be better off finding a campsite in the area. Nowadays lots of them have separate places for campers (including special rates), with electricity and wifi.

If you need to know more just ask and I'll try and find out.

Just a point. The "drugs tourism" in Amsterdam is now over. Those who imbibe, cannot go and sit in the "cannabis cafe's" and get stoned, it is now strictly only for Dutch residents. the red light district and the bars are still doing a roaring trade, and the area is still stunning.

I thought that didn't apply in Amsterdam yet?

Not worth going if it's right::bigsmile:

I have stayed at Zeeburg several times. A smallish pleasant site on a little island, short walk to Flevopark tram stop and straight into the centre.
Gaasper is pretty good, adjacent water park, big pitches but quite a way from the city. It is on the metro line so quite quick to get in.
Vliegenbos is a long thin site with the shower block right up one end. A longish walk takes you to the free ferry across the Ij which docks at the back of Centraal station. There is also a supermarket on the walk which is useful as they are like rocking horse poo in Amsterdam.
There is also Amsterdamse Bos in a quite good park which is a way out again but on a bus route to the city centre.

All these sites are fine, I have stayed at all of them at different times.
There used to be a really handy site close to the city centre at the old olympic stadium, unfortunately closed years ago when the site was developed for housing.

There are also many cheap places to stay but designed for youngsters and pretty basic to say the least.
Fascinating city :thumb:

We were going to go to Amsterdam at the end of our springtime europe trip. However we got chatting to a Dutch couple in Cochem and they advised us not to stay on any of the sites close to Amsterdam, but to stay on the extreme outskirts and take a train in. We didn't bother at all in the end as the weather was so bad.
