Yes, 10 degrees C is supposed to be the figure. Your 'rememberer' isn't as broke as you thought. :winky:

Just looked at the manual "The covers may be fitted when the outside temperature is below approx 10 deg C and should be fitted when thee temperature is below the freezing point. We suggest that you fit the winter covers in the case that the vehicle is laid up during the winter months".

never seen them on oven vents and my oven vent is just a small round one.
now the water heater ones i have seen with vent covers on but only if not using gas i suppose it keeps the rodents out of the flue in winter .

Both of our vents are off in the summer (even in Scotland the weather can get hot ) and then clip them back on towards the end of autumn or when it gets cooler.

Rule of thumb for us is, if Margaret needs her bed socks on, then the covers go back on to the vents:thumb:

And if you've got them, might as well put them on when your washing the van:thumb:

Vents

No vent covers came with van,I assume they're just used in cold weather to keep inside warmer.Or are there other technical reasons to fit them,if so I'll think about buying some,

They make the fridge more efficient or even work if the ambient is down to freezing:thumb:

There were none with our van when we bought it so I bought a set. Plenty of stockists and not all that dear so well worth it.

Is that the same for ovens?
As in the original question, I can understand the fridge bit, but ovens?

We don't have an oven as such, but do have a high-level mini-grill which has a winter cover that matches the fridge ones. However, we don't normally use the grill, so the vent cover stays on all the time. Guess we'd take it off in the summer if we were using the grill, but no idea how necessary it is - on or off?

We have a high-level grill (aka the bread worrier!), it doesn't need the very large vent that is fitted in the van (same type as fridge vent) but we put this down to the fact that earlier models of our van (Chausson Flash 04) and other Chausson vans, had a mini oven/grill and the large vent would have been needed for ventilation for the oven as it would obviously have got much hotter/be on for longer than a grill. As the vent is way over the top we have slightly cut down a standard fridge vent to go on it which is left in place all the time and which still allows a bit of ventilation, but blocks out most of it and the draughts that go with it! :Eeek:

We fit our winter vents in winter funnily enough ... :thumb:

vents on or off

from what i understand, you need the covers on when its cold so the gas burns more efficiently. when its very windy i put them :roflmto:on to stop the flame blowing out. i have also been told that when it is very hot, to take the vent off altogether, again to help the air flow ::bigsmile:

I don't think I have got any. Then again I am the least practical person in the UK so I cannot completely rule it out.

Last weekend I took about 15 minutes trying to put together my new Motorhome wifi thingy before announcing to the family that there were parts missing...my wife sorted it in about 15 seconds:Doh:
