Scotland East or West (1 Viewer)

We have decided to bite the bullet and face tourists and kids in order to get our fix touring Scotland.
Do we have funsters at home in beautiful Scotland?? If so what are the midgees biting like in both East and West coastal areas. We intend to go to proper Scotland north of Inverness and was hoping to avoid bites as they have a very bad effect on me.
Any suggestions as to hidden and peaceful CL typesites from Edinburgh up to Moray and beyond?? The West is OK as we have a few areas that are hideaways.

We're in the east, on the Moray Firth. No problems with midges at all here and currently the sun is shining brightly.

If you are going to Inverness call in at the Black Isle eighter Fortrose or Rosmarkie there is a CCC site at Rosmarkie but I would think you would need to book that but would probably get on at Fortrose, then you would be able to go and see the Dolphins at Channery Point. Plus a nice little beach and lovely cycle rides and walks.

What ever you do go to Ardmair point on the west coast we spent 3 nights there last week Brill weather gorge sunsets and the Dolphins in the bay

at the moment the east coast and central/eastern borders are all but clear of the little ba&&ards.

if you havent tried/heard of it, Avon 'skin so soft' body oil is allegedly a very good repellent...the bottle with the green label....and so many other uses too

We're here in D & G, just 2 miles west of Gatehouse of Fleet, today the weather was fine, stayed dry. We passed lots of mhs on the A75 today, there were quite a few parked in and around Castle Douglas.......everyone gave a friendly wave:thumb:

The midges are only a problem when the wind drops and as it's quite windy at the moment, they've got no chance, but appreciate that you have a problem with bites. Try using "Smidge" as a repellant, link below:-

I prefer the west of Scotland, the Ayrshire coast is lovely, Largs (our previous home town) is always popular. You can take the ferry from Largs across to the Cumbrae and drive round to Millport, there are places to wildcamp and one or two sites, but haven't stayed at any of them. Bike hire is available in the town if you don't have your own with you.
Back on the mainland, if you continue up the Clyde coast to Gourock, you can take the big ferry across to Dunoon and then continue on northwards through Argyll and to many lovely spots.
If you do decide to go east, the East Neuk of Fife is also lovely, St. Monans, Pittenweem, Crail and Elie (great wide streets for parking). The Ship Inn, at Elie, we can recommend for nice meals. Then on up towards St. Andrews which is a must if you're going towards that side.
We've stayed at Sauchope Links Park, just on the edge of Crail (right on the coast), not a CL, but not a big site and the staff are very friendly and we can recommend it. But you might need to book up before hand as it's very popular during the holiday season. Link below for you:thumb:
