It has been very hot here this last week...

Over 35C...

My Vitrifigo 12 volt compressor fridge does sterling service in the Wagon but the old Electrolux 3 way in the Hymer struggles. Ok on mains but on gas not so good and 12 volt not working (Seems to be drawing over 25 amps when switched on, even with the engine running.)

Yesterday I fiddled around with the gas jet (waiting for the new one to be sent) and got a much better flame... indeed probably too bigger a flame... the chimney got nice and hot, as did the top fins and the freezer box element got nice and cold but the cooling fin thingies in the main body of the fridge didn't cool down at all after three hours so I switched it off.

This morning, with the sun beating down again and with a VIP due to arrive in a couple of weeks for a three week Portuguese tour and after doing a great deal of thinking and reading reviews and getting advice from people I know who use them... I did it.

I ordered an Engel (Portable) Fridge Freezer with its unique compressor system and a microscopic current drain.

So no new phone for me right now but lots of cold drinks and ice etc.

If it works as well as it says it does in the blurb then I will tell you all about it... The new mantra could become...

Man City, Fray Bentos, Tomtoms, Kipors and Engels Rool, OK?

I've got a Vitrifigo 12v compressor fridge in my Land Rover Motorhome. As I have not left GB with it yet it has not had much of a test, but it's good to know they work well.::bigsmile:

Hi JJ
glad to hear its not raining there:Sad:
Cheyne (upmarkethippy) has had an Engel 'fridge/freezer for years-----it has had the abuse you could only expect of him and his Land Rover:Eeek:, and it still remains sooo faithfull to him::bigsmile:
Engel has the same reputation as Honda (SORRY) and FB pies :winky:
It would be nice if you could let go of the sun for a while:thumb:

I`m sorry to read about your Dilema ... JJ..

Just cos I`m a fantastic mate to you...

I took me hat and made up a sign which read

(My mate JJ, is stuck in soaring heat with a broked down Fridge, all donations gratefully received.. Thankyou)

I went round all the shops collecting for you... the only shop (Person).. that dropped anything in the hat was the little "Sweet Shop"...

And all they put in was "Four Ice Cubes".... Suppose it`s the thought that counts..

Anyway had to pop in the gents... so I put the hat on the floor outside...

Comes out and some Barsteward had nicked the "Ice Cubes"...

Not only that they had "Peed" in the hat..

I was only gone for 15 mins...

Sorry mate..

PS.It`s been lovely and hot here the last few days.. :thumb:
