Starter Leisure batteries (1 Viewer)

Hi does anyone use one of the dual purpose starter leisure batteries. thinking of fitting one of these my only concern is that the cca cold cranking capacity is listed as 450 amps my current varta battery is 750 amps will this only make a difference in really cold weather?. thanks

best change like for like but as far as i know a 750 cca will crank longer than a 450 but it will still turn engine over but not as long befor going flat

Why would you want to?

Batteries for specialist roles should be used in the right application. It's as simple as that!

Your starter battery should be for starting and your habitation battery should be type suitable for that purpose. A battery which is advertised for as fit for both purposes will be a compromise and will not fulfill either role to a good standard.

Generally, 'dual purpose' batteries are a way for a distributor to sell a standard starter battery at an inflated price. You need maximum amperage for cold starting, so why reduce it?

sorry no experience but i cant get my head around them.

a leisure battery is designed for low current drain, maybe 5 to10amps, over a relatively long time.
an engine battery is designed for very high current drain, upwards of 600amps, for a very short time.

two completely different battery technologies and constructions.

The point of fitting one is that i do not have to increase my payload anymore by fitting a second battery. i suppose rv,s have a lot going for them really with built in gennys anyone selling one

hi .i tried alsorts when i was building campers .always found a good quality wet battery best .used to like hoppecke a german make . seems to have disapeared these days .although i dont use the same supplier these days .
now i use varta or hella . only because there is a truck spares place at the end of my road. ,big wheels .
got shown that sterling article a while ago . seems to make sense to me.

Numax sell a range of batteries advertised as "Dual Purpose" ....... I have no experience of them and would wait a couple of years to see what feedback they get. Brian
