Hi Folks

I have a South African friend with an international drivers license and I intend to lend my motorhome to him for two weeks of European touring.

However .. my insurance company (Sureterm Direct) flatly refuse to accomodate us.

Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?
Do other companies allow this?
Can we take a short-term policy with someone else?

thanks
Rog

I am sure I speak for most in that not many would want to loan/lend out their MH. You may find that you aren't friends when they deliver it back. Nobody looks after your pride and joy like you do no matter how careful they are :whatthe::whatthe:

But if that's what you want to do then good luck and I hope you get sorted.

I guess the only solution is if they hire one from a company sadly.

Hi,

We do not have a problem with International Driving licenses although our insurance company requires a copy of the license plus a copy of the drivers passort for identification purposes. Identification in your case with your friend cannot be a problem as you personally know him.

I am sure Hertz and the other hire companies do not have a problem either with ITD licenses but of course like us, they have full dealer hire insurance which is different to a domestic policy.

There is an additional premium payable for continental use.

You could try other insurance companies, but MH insurance is a specialised market.

If it is off any help, we are with Norwich Union.

Regards

Peter

Rog, on what grounds did your Insurers refuse to provide cover?

Was it the License?

If you try to get short term cover I think you will run into problems with double indemnity (or whatever it is called) whereby I understand that insurers will not permit two policies to be in place for the same vehicle at the same time - although I don't know why - apart from the worry across the insurance market as a whole that they might have to pay twice for one lot of repairs perhaps?

Since 2005 ish
Hi rog
We've leant ours a few times and each time we've put our friends on our
insurance for however long they were having the van, they payed the cost and
everyone was happy :thumb:
Theres no chance of having two policys on the same van, it's incase it gets
written-off and two people get paid-out in full. That's been done before by five blokes for one bmw.

Regards...nige
