The Hymer is spending the night in Hymer Hospital...

Tomorrow she has an operation on her front discs...

The Doctor believes this will solve a braking judder...

I do hope Hymer will be all right away from home and all alone over night...

I know how your Hymer feels JJ. Rhian, our youngest son and myself were due to fly out to San Francisco for a three week tour two weeks tomorrow, but instead got to go into Hospital on Thursday and op on Friday (ah well perhaps another time!)

Hope Hymer recovers well :thumb:

Despite my socialist leanings I have been forced to go private with this operation... I have not paid enough into the Portuguese system yet... :ROFLMAO:

Thanks for the reassuring words PaulyP... He/She (we can't really decide) is being operated on by the Main Disc Man for a large section of Portugal... machines are in the workshop adjoining the garage... have been told it will ready tomorrow and the estimate for the skimming plus removal and refitting is...€20...

He will also give me prices for a new set of discs should I decide to go down that route at a later date...

I love the "keep it on the road as affordably as possible" approach they have here but they don't really understand my tendency to want the motorhome kept in as near as perfect condition as possible (and affordable)...

I would like to report that the Hymer is back home from the hospital...

It seems that the brakes no longer judder when they are applied... (only a short test drive though.)

The charge was €20...The boss did the skimming... (I gave the mechanic who did the disc removal and refitting a €3 tip... nearly four small beers seemed fair)

The Boss has quoted €90 to supply and fit a set of new discs... we'll see...

JJ

PS. Thanks for all the get well cards...:thumb:

Yep, I know exactly where you are coming from JJ. A man after my own heart when it comes to the Hymer. :winky:

Glad to hear that all is back to normal after the discs being skimmed. :thumb: €90 for 2 x new discs sounds very reasonable. Does that include fitting, and a new set of pads?

Cheers for now,

Jock.

All good news JJ, and I hope you bestowed a bunch of grapes or similar on the patient whilst incarcerated ?

If you think that is keeping it going as cheap as poss, I was well pleased on our first visit to Corfu back in 87' .. Clutch went phut in the Beetle owned by ( our soon to be ) very good friend..

I happened to be present as it was being fixed... Whole job took a couple of hours.. Almost all of that time consumed by the mechanic cutting new friction material out of an old shot to bits leather saddle !!!!!!!

They seem to like leather on Corfu.. a few years later one of the guys in the bar had the big ends go in his mk2 cortina.. A couple hours later and it was all fixed..
Could not believe it when he said the new ends will last about 6 months and he would replace them again.. Theres me thinking 'why doesn't the plonker get the crank ground'..
Only to find out they replaced the end shells with leather strapping !!!!!!!!!!
Apparently, running with the oil, the leather was plenty good enough to do the job ( at least for a while ::bigsmile: )

Thanks Jock... the quote included fitting but using the new pads they just supplied and fitted a fortnight before...

John... I would worry about Greeks approaching with leather on their big ends... :Eeek:

sounds like a really great get you home measure but what stops your pants from falling down in the mean time.
