Hi all,

Looking for advice / ideas for Spanish Aires just over the border of France in August. Would prefer South West France area but not fussy. Any thoughts ideas ? Literally will spend 4 weeks in France but fancy some days in the North of Spain.

Not that many aires in Spain at the moment, they are growing.
But as already said on thread, pick a quiet village, park up sensibly and you'll fit right in.
Keep away from the golden mile, that strip populated by the egg n bacon crew from Barcelona too Malaga and you'll be fine, move back 10kl inland, better scenery/food/bars and peeps.

There is an Aire at La Balou just on the French side of the border. Go into town in the direction of Perpignan and as you start to come out of town its on your right, just behind the graveyard. If you pass it, go up to the roundabout by the hypermarkets and come back on yourself. It has water and toilets and is free. It s a 2 minute walk into town a 10 minute drive into Spain.

We stayed here in March on our way to Marjal. It was very busy, we arrived early in the afternoon, but around 4 it was full with motorhomes arriving all evening. The police moved on a couple which were parked outside the designated area! The advice is arrive early or have somewhere else as a possible backup.

Thats the case with most French Aires and as the original poster said they are going in August all Aires will be full. There is a good municipal just before the border at Laroque des Alberes which is cheap and right in the centre of the village. Have stayed there many times as the village is lovely and quite lively with a good sprinkling of bars and resteraunts. Its also handy for a quick fix of Spain which is a 10 minute drive away.
