We usually go to Carrefour at Cite Europe near the Eurotunnel exit between Boulogne and Calais. The choice of wine and prices were pretty good last time we were there and you can stay overnight in the car park if you want.

I stopped at a Carrefour City, 4 boulevard Clémenceau 62100 CALAIS when on an actual booze cruise [day trip in Berlingo to France and my favourite Belgian drinks market]. I was in Berlingo not motrohome, but parking not a problem I imagine. Can recommend their 5 litre wine boxes at around 10 Euros [equivalent bottle price = 1.5 Euros]. Very quaffable if you can get over any inherent snobbery about boxes! They also had a good selection of local artisanale beers if you're into that sort of thing. All MUCH cheaper than anywhere this side of the Channel.

There is no real limit on what you can bring back unless you start to fill a commercial van from top to bottom - it just has to be for personal consumption. HMRC advisory limits: Beer 110 litres. Wine 90 litres (must not include more than 60 litres of sparkling wine) Spirits 10 litres. Port & Sherry 20 litres ...

Happy to barter with you for a wine box tho if you buy an extra one :winky::winky:

We have developed a "going home from Calais" routine which involves staying at Le Crotoy Aire or the Montreuil sur Mer campsite, calling in at the Auchan outside Boulogne - much nicer than the Calais shops, we feel. We also fill up with gas and diesel, have a last lunch in the little restaurant there (not the Flunch) and then on to Calais. Often we stop the night at the Calais Aire and catch an early morning ferry.

We're not far behind you. At Parc Verger currently, leaving tomorrow and catching ferry Thurs morning. Hope you've had a good trip despite the not very good weather of late.

Beat me to it Steve.
Yes Ray, Pidou, very reasonable prices, especialy the
jp chennet rouge our favourite. We used to use tesco and sainsburys but they both closed down.

Note these are guidelines: they are not a legal entity. the emphasis is on "for personal use".

Not sure what you are driving at .... there is no limit for personal use if you meet the conditions..

From HMRC >
Arrivals from EU countries

When arriving into the UK from an EU country you can bring in an unlimited amount of most goods.

For excise goods such as alcohol and tobacco, there are no restrictions. However you must meet the conditions below:

You transport the goods yourself.
The goods are for your own use or as a gift. If the person you give the goods to pays you in any way - including reimbursing you for any expenses or payment in kind - then it's not a gift and the goods may be seized.
The goods are duty and tax paid in the EU country where they were acquired.

If you don't meet these conditions, the goods and any vehicle that transported them, may be seized.

You can read more about Excise Duty in the guide 'Customs Duty, Excise Duty and Import VAT: introduction'. You'll find a link to this in the ‘More useful links’ section below.

JIm has it sussed.

The "Guidelines" are just that: guidelines.
They have no legality and are set by Customs Officers, not by legislation.

The goods you buy in another EU country have had duty paid on them in that State.
This makes the goods T2 customs status within the EU.
T2 goods are in "free circulation", and as such can be freely moved within the EU as long as they are not for resale in another Member State.
The intention to sell them on must be demonstrated, not assumed, by HMRC.

Case in point:
A friend booze cruised to get stuff for Xmas and wedding parties.
The customs man pulled his van over and asked what he intended to do with a pallet of beer.
"Drink it with friends at two parties" replied Dave.
"Heard that before, never believe it" says the customs man, "Heard it again" says Dave.
"What do you intend to do with over 1,000 cigarettes?" asks Mr Customs.
"Smoke 'em, give some away" says Dave.
"I think you intend to sell them" says himself.
"Sell them for £25 a pack, then pay £45 a pack meself? Do I look that daft?" says Dave.
Dave was then informed of the "guidelines", to which he replied with a statement that the goods were for his and friends' own consumption or gifts and as such were T2, requested to see the head Customs Officer to register a complaint.

The Customs guy thought about it and said he would just warn him, but his vehicle (a van) would be monitored crossing the channel.
Dave thanked him politely for his time and guidance, then told him he didnt really give a shit about the van as it was hired.
