A regular question I get asked by UK RVers is how do you get insurance for long distance journeys. Well our MH is French and registered in France so insured in France. There is an excellent specialist broker and they get cover through AGF which provides a green card giving 12 months fully comp cover for about 40 countries; all the EU, all other European countries and most of North Africa and including countries like Iran! All other countries in the world are covered fully comp for 90 days.

So why can't this be provided in the UK. Perhaps at little group from here could start some talks with a broker, the word would quickly spread. Use you consumer muscle!

No Reason in the world why UK Insurance company's cant do the same, the problem is, front line staff and rear end staff plus the bean counters can not and will not communicate with each other, I've come to the conclusion the PC and Internet are to blame, every thing it appears in life is now menu driven, IE drop down boxes and clicky type squares, and if it ain't on the menu, you ain't having it at any price :cry::cry::cry:

That's exactly why a group like this needs to approach a broker to sort it out in return for some business.

A typical example has just raised its ugly head Renewal time is upon me 2 weeks away to be precise, and after all the shoping and bartering there appears to be two contenders
RH specialist are the best price but, dont do recovery, dont do Morocco
Safegaurd do recovery and do morroco, so whats the problem, well they cant take recovery out of the policy and I already have the RAC arrival sceme so it appears i have to pay for that service twice, and just to add insult to injury neither cover recovery in whilst in Morroco:Doh:

Try Towergate Baker they do both and if you add Pammy as a named driver it's cheaper than just yourself.

There was an insurance broker chap on MHF's who was trying to set up or change things relating to full timing insurance.

I have just tried a search and cannot find one thread that he kept popping up in.

Can anyone help and recall if he ever came back with any good news?

Full Timing Insurance

I have talked to about a dozen of the 'Big' insurance companies and not a single one of them will entertain the idea of a full-time insurance. Mostly they are adamant that we must have a bricks-and-mortar address (whether it be ours or not is irrelevant!) and most of them fall back on the manufacturers hand book which states that most RV's are not suitable for living in full time.

Most of them accept that there are people who full time in RV's but none of them will tell me what would happen if an RV burnt to the ground and it belonged to a known full-timer. I know of one case where a friend of ours had his RV burnt out and the Insurance Company paid in full BUT the RV was worth only a few 'grand' - what would they do in the case of a £200,000 plus RV?

It really is a case of pay what the Insurance Companies ask and then pray that they do not renege on their promises, in the event of a mishap.

Thanks to John I thought I had found an insurance company that would fit the bill, they do what I want and came in a full £100 below their nearest competitor, but fell at the last hurdle,on two counts
1. The windscreen cover has dropped from unlimited to £2000 max
2. They do Cover Morroco BUT!!!! charge £110 to issue the green card???

their competitors charge "Nothing!!!!"
Conlcusion
It's A Con, A fix, A Stitch up A Rip Off, Money for old rope, Legal GBH of the Wallet
any more:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

WHY?

Dick, Did you ask for an explanation and if so what was it?

If a Full Timer has a bank account to which their company pension is paid to, a mailing address for driving licence, bank statements and the like, you pay your insurance and RV road tax why should they have to have bricks and mortar?

I keep reading and hearing this but there is never an explanation WHY?

Oh, Mick - I have posed the "Why bricks and mortar address" so many times to so many people and been given so many different answers that I could almost write a book on the subject.

Not only have I been given so many different replies BUT I have also been given many different (off the record) ways of getting around the subject by those very self-same companies!

I think that it really boils down to an age-old problem of "travellers" - nobody really wants to insure somebody who is liable to disappear off the face of the earth at any time of night or day - whether they be legal motorhomers etc., etc., etc (and I have no wish to start any kind of debate on the term 'travellers' here).

Whatever I say or do, I have not yet been able to convince any insurance company that I am an honourable person who just wants to go my own way and do my own thing - and I just simply don't fit into one of their little square boxes!
