Satellite dish and tv hook up- thick moment

Hi, we are now getting to grips with our lovely new found weekend freedom. We have a tv in the van which is brill and built in free view and DVD etc.

Now the thick bit, where does a satellite dish feature, I have seen other vans with these on tripods and if you have one do you somehow need to subscribe somewhere.

Also a lot of pitches we stay on have tv or satellite hook up or both, whats this for and what do we need to do if anything.

May sound thick but I guess you never know unless you ask!

When using satellite dish 3 options.
Freesat & Free to air boxes,no subscription.
Sky , subscription but if you subscribe at home you can use the same card.
On site freeview ,cable straight into TV
Satellite on site not to sure but I assume you still need a box

As mentioned tv point on site is just an aerial like on your roof at home, just plug into freeview box or tv if built in freeview

satellite point is just to the dish, so you still need a sat box, either sky or free to air type to decode for the tv

sat dishes either on van or tripod supply the sat decoder as mentioned before and gives a good picture and uk tv as far south as spain

site tv hookup gives a far better aerial reception...you just run a coax wire from post to your tv aerial point

satellite can give either just freeview channels or if you take a skybox and card from home will give you everything you can watch at home

Tv hook up if you don't have your own ariel or your own ariel is not picking up a signal.

no the sites dont have a freeview box built in, just an aerial

freeview tv through an aerial, you need to be within broadcast range, so no good out of uk. Satellite will pick up way down south, but you need to buy either a sat freeview box or a sky box, with or without subscription. without a subscription on sky you can get a freesat card giving basic channels for about £10

Many sites are in poor reception areas in which case you can purchase a long coax lead and plug into the sites boosted supply.
Sat boxes, freesat is for use in the uk only and give more or less freeview channels (but not all) uses sat Astra 2B
Free to air uses any sat anywhere . so vast array of channels English & foreign.
Channels on free to air are generally free sat but spread about

To use you telly with a satellite you need, a decoder which connects to your tv. There are lots of different types of decoder.

You can use a sky box if you have one or buy a decoder from Maplins or Road Pro.

You will then need a satellite dish. There are lots of satellite dishes. You could use a sky dish and attach it too a pole or tripod which you would position outside of your mh somwhere.

The satellite dish is then attached to your decoder via a length of co axial cable.

You can buy a dish from Maplins or Road Pro.

You can buy a dish that sits on the top of your mh or on the ground. Whatever suits you.

You dont have to use Maplin or Road Pro, they are examples. Road Pro has a very good web site which will explain telly's in mh's for you.

after all that said you may need some way of getting said cable to the inside of your motorhome for which there are a couple of ways.

1st you can buy a flat cable that you just put through the bottom of a window or locker door.
