Gas Bottle Compartment Lock Broken? (1 Viewer)

For some reason I can't insert a key in the lock to our Burstner's gas cylinder compartment! Fortunately it wasn't locked but now that I've just fitted a new refilled bottle in there, I'd like to be able to.

I'm guessing something has snapped of inside the lock, maybe a key. I've tried oiling without success.

Could someone help me in identifying the part I need and where I may buy one?

Perhaps I could just replace the barrel or maybe I need the whole lock assembly?

Wip those screws out of the back, take it off and have a look. You may find that you can fix it.

Done that - seems the barrel is an integral part of the external half of the whole catch assembly.

I'll have another bash tomorrow and maybe get a small screwdriver in the lock to see if I can free whatever's jamming it.

I wonder, would removing the clip (middle left of image 2) allow the barrel to be withdrawn enabling (hopefully) access to its internals?

Remove four outer screws shown in your photo, remove handle assembly from
door.
Remove the Horse shoe clip then tap the barrel out,(the barrel may be seized in and take a little persuasion to tap out,you may have to move it a little in and out till it comes free) once removed you can soak in penetraiting oil, or replace the barrel. Will be available from most dealers parts
department or take handle to your local locksmith who will repair barrel or supply new.
Reassemble using silicon type grease, refit to door.:thumb:

Total self interest. We have the same type of handle on our gas locker so it will be useful to have a solution is something similar ever happens to us

I was told today by a trader that it's impossible to remove the key barrel from its housing without a special universal key.

I did remove rhe circlip and tried to tap the barrel out, but it didn't budge. This is a ZADI lock

looking at the picture the spring looks as though it will have to come off and then something in the long slot under the spring looks to be holding it in place too.

I removed the spring too

It was Camper UK who informed me the barrel couldn't be removed without a universal key

Just to put this thread to bed and for the benefit of others.

Having purchased a replacement catch and lock, I can confirm the need for a special key in order to remove the barrel from its housing. The only other way to retrieve the barrel would be to damage the housing and possibly the barrel too.
