I've insured with them for years, they seem very good, especially if you have any questions about things like Toads. Some insurers don't seem to know anything about motorhomes (or even the English language sometimes) though they will still take your premium.

AFAIK , they also understand the term 'fulltiming' and will consider cover, (albeit pricey), on a 'case by case' basis ... No other insurer that I am aware of will even consider a 'fulltimer'

Just renewed with Comfort last week, for the third time. Premium had gone up about £10 compared to last year, but nonetheless very competitive. Have full breakdown, incl Continental use, with them and the total bill was just over £300.

Anyone else come close to them or shouldn't I ask :thumb:

I have been very satisfied with NFU for about six years and I check prices each renewal. :thumb:

Fortunately, so far I have not had to put them to the test over a claim ... he says touching wood !

They also include our toad on the same policy.::bigsmile:

I've had NFU for donkeys years, and did have an accident while abroad in the RV .. not my fault but the other car was very badly damaged..probably a write off. It was difficult explaining what happened to the French Police and you know how excitable the French can be .. anyways..
The claim was handled without fuss or bother and I didn't lose any NCD ..

Still with them with my present car.. they are more expensive than some.. but from my past good experience with them I figured it was worth the bit extra ... you get what you pay for .. and cheap car insurance may not turn out cheap if you have a claim.

Been with Comfort for years, including the Toad. Once had to claim for a breakdown in France and they were excellent. They also don't seem to penalise existing customers to give discounts to new business.

We are with Safeguard, they were brilliant last year when someone reversed into the side of us, two big dents in the bodywork, plus cracked window unit.
They also provide full UK and European breakdown cover and we found them very easy to deal with. If you're a member of any clubs (CC or otherwise) you might get a good deal.
Safeguard were recommended to us when we bought the mh and they certainly fulfilled our requirements professionally:thumb:
Also, no annoying "menu options" when you call them either, you get straight through to an operator quickly:thumb:

Victor Millwell Insurance is a brokers trading as Comfort Insurance. The cover is underwritten by AVIVA (formerly known as Norwich Union). (AVIVA also own the RAC)

We have been specialising in Motor Caravan Insurance for 15 years, built on the personal motor caravanning experience of the directors and their families. The company philosophy is simple - a top quality product backed up by efficient, customer-friendly service. To reinforce this message, we have attended many of the major motor caravan shows over recent years

Peter Cue and his family have been active motorhome owners for over 25 years. In the mid-1990′s Peter realised that there was little or no specialist cover available to motorhome owners, so he set about creating a policy that provided the additional cover that motorhome owners needed. This became the Comfort Insurance Scheme, and it quickly became a market-leader. Further schemes for private cars and household insurance have followed. Years later the Comfort scheme is still regularly winning awards for quality of cover and service.

I have been with them for 5 years. This is my third year full timing. I have found them excellent. The claims are handled will and I have used both the UK and Continental breakdown service and can not fault either.
We have the Motorhome ans Smart Car insured with them. We also had household insurance with them before we went full time

comparisons

Have had 3 quotes today
1. Safeguard----£350
2. Saga-----£440
3 Comfort----£359
these include European travel and breakdown cover.

Think saga have priced themselves out of it so its Safeguard or Comfort but I leave decisions to ""she who must be obayed"" (Then if it goes wrong I can blame her)

always read the small print

Having read the small print for both Safeguard and Comfort, I have opted for Comfort WHY hidden away in small type for Safeguard was the excess, £200 compulsary plus £100 voluntary If I reduced the voluntary the price went up considerably. at least Comfort had it in bold lettering £200 compulsary and thats it.

Switched from Comfort last year as they do not register your No claims bonus. No proof was given at renewal and when asked they didn't supply any. So switched back to caravan guard who honoured the previous no claims I had with them.

I wanted to buy a small car and I had a quote from them for a matiz and they wanted £1200 on top of the £670 I already pay to them for the fulltiming rate so we didn't get the car.
I have since had a quote from other companies for a round the £250 mark.
They said they were a specialist motorhome insurers, but they can't be as you say they insured the house as well?

Ps I found out they give you no claims ( as mentioned by Drago35uk ) nor are your previous no claims asked for, not sure what will happen when we stop fulltiming if ever we do, have to play it by ear!!

You are absolutely right, they are very pricey. Almost DOUBLE the premium for anybody using their 'van for more than 6 months in a year - i.e. Fulltimers.

Safeguard do not penalise fulltimers & cover 365.:thumb:

not being picky, but there is a difference between 365 cover (which most policies are) and fulltiming .. ie living in your van 365.

If you are living fulltime you need insurance that specifically states it is for fulltime .. not just 365.

Full Time cover is for a person with no fixed abode. If you have a house then you are not dependant on your motorhome as your sole residence therefore not full timing.

We have been with Comfort since we started motorhoming 12 years ago. The renewal will be arriving in the next few days and every year I do the rounds with other competitors to get a like for like quote. I have been unsuccessful in all my 12 years. Our cover includes European breakdown, which worked faultlessly 7 years ago when we broke down in our old Burstner.

Pleasant telephone manner every time I phone up with queries, which have been answered excellently. All in all a very happy customer.

I asked for a quote for our Skoda and it came in at £150 more that the same direct from Aviva, which seemed a bit odd as they were quoting from Aviva. Good for the MH though.

I wonder if Jim has looked into a discount for members on insurance?

With safeguard, it asks if you are in a club, a list falls from the drop down box, "facts" is one of them, so a discount mst be availabe, whether its a true one or not, is another question.

Take your point, but, Comfort dont make that distinction. Even if you have a UK address, if you spend more time in the 'van than out of it, i.e. 6 months & 1 day in one year, they treat that as Fulltiming & weight the premium accordingly. Safeguard have no limit on use.
