Hi,

I just bought 1989 VWT25 camper van with a fair few niggles that need sorting out. Does anyone here know of a VW camper van specialist or somewhere capable of giving my new van the once over so I can compile a list of required jobs and subsequently prioritise and get said jobs done.

Any help greatly received as I,m 100% newbie.

Regards
Russ

priority electrics

The man who sold the van to me explained that the leisure battery will lose charge in less than a week if the van is not driven. ( even if not using any electrical items).

Chances are that is because of little bits of kit are drawing power without you knowing. :Eeek: Very common, most motorhomes do it. Called parasitic drain, it is fixed by isolating the battery with a switch or simply disconnecting it when the vehicle is not in use.

I think you would be better off finding a web site dedicated to your T25 such as "brickyard".My son had one of these vans and found that there is a wealth of info on these sort of sites.

Sorry but that is rubbish. If that is happening either something is discharging it or the battery is knackered with a very big K

Depends. If it is the chassis battery then no it should not go flat quickly. However it is a problem with habitation batteries. In mine for example the gas detector, alarm system and other bits and piece take a 0.3A constant draw from the 220A of batteries and is monitored with a BM1 battery monitor. Allowing for a usable amount of 110A from my batteries then they are stuggling after a couple of weeks. So I keep a little trickle charger on them.

I think from what you saying super mike
That it's probably the alarm system or something
That is slowly draining the leisure battery. There is a switch on the battery which if switched off the battery holds its charge. I thought at first that this was installed by the previous owner as a compromise or temporary fix but maybe this is normal thing to do. I have checked out website for company on Telford and they can do full inspection of all electrics and gas system for the fee of £135 +vat. Maybe be worth paying that out to find out for sure what state the whole van
