Finally put water in system today for the first time.

Swift Kontiki

water pump switch on control panel, green light comes on then goes out after a while. Should this stay on?

Dials on Truma, one on `Gas operation`, the other on 60 c, only get luke warm water out of taps that goes cold after a few seconds.
There is a yellow LED lit which according to the book means `Boiler heat up phase`, this is still on after a couple of hours.

Am i right in thinking that all of the water the boiler tank (10 litres I think) has to be heated to the right temerature? If it does, how long should it take?

Thanks

Steve

One thing that took me a while to realise was the fact that there has to be gas getting to the boiler even if you are trying to heat it on the electrical setting. Probably not the problem you have at present but something to be aware of.

make sure you have removed the cover from the boiler vent outside if using on gas. Oh and obviously make sure you have gas getting through. try lighting a hob.

The pump should run and light come on as the system pressures up then switch off. The light is just to say that the pump is running

We had a similar problem last time out, it turned out to be the regulator failing. Basically as the regulator got slowly clogged, the gas pressure droped to virtually nothing. Hence why I suggested lighting the gas hob to see what the pressure is like.

It may even be a blocked gas jet in the boiler as sometimes happens, but this tends to be more common of fridges than higher output items like heaters

Thanks for the replies.

Gas hob works fine as does blow air heating.

If water is coming out of all taps/shower OK, does that mean a air lock is unlikely?

if your getting the same pressure out of hot tap as cold at each sink, its not an airlock on the water.

most likely to be the thermostat thinking about it logically, as its got gas and water pressure and no cover on outside (this causes the gas to shut of or cycle giving just luke warm water)

There is a thermostat on the boiler that cuts the gas at set temperatures. I think you said that you had set it at 60* at the switch. The pcb behind the switch tells the thermostat which temperature you set etc. You could try setting to other temperatures to rule out switching issues.

Ive seen the thermostats for sale on EBay, as this appears to be a common fault

Before I make a fool of myself and take it somewhere to watch someone turn a knob and get it working, can anyone confirm that you do need to wait while the water in the boiler tank gets up to temp?

thanks

Have you tried turning it on and off several times in succession, when
you turn it on the light on the temperature dial should go green,
if after a short time it changes to red this means it has failed to
ignite, turn it off on the dial and immediately back on repeating this
2 or 3 times normally gets ours to start after it has not been used for
some time. The water normally heats up in about 15 mins.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that. Will try turning it on and off.

When I turn it on to 60C (other dial on gas only), a green light comes on and a yellow one. According to the book yellow means `boiler warm up phase`, but this never goes out. I assume this means that the water in boiler never gets to temp.

Thanks for all the replies.

Turning it on and off seems to have done the trick, thanks Steve, although there was a bit of a burning smell for a while.... ::bigsmile:

sounds like you had a blockage in the burner then that eventually burnt off. :thumb:

Would probably be a good idea to fit your vent cover when not in use,
I always put ours on and only remove when we wish to use hot water.
Spiders, have a habit of building webs in open vents, suppose could
obstruct air flow.I also think sometimes due to non use the gas takes
a little time to get to the water heater, and this can only be cleared by
several cycles off the start up.

Any way glad to have been of help.

Ours takes about 15-20 mins to heat the water to the set temp-it always smells a tads 'burney' when it's hot.I switch it on in morn, make a cuppa and go back to bed until I smell the smell ::bigsmile:
