Save 90% emissions ???????????

Burn wood or burn petrol, just the same, you release captured carbon back into the atmosphere.

Yeah, maybe they're a tad over-enthusiastic on the emissions-saving front :roflmto:, but what about a fire pit to sit around of an evening that's also charging your electric bike ready for the next day?

It'd add another way to live "off-grid" when you're off on your travels.

No technical details but looking at it I'm guessing a tiny turbine in that yellow tube with hot air rising through it.

Happy hippy, Rob has a heat to electricity gadget fitted to his stove and it does apparently keep his batteries charged in the winter very well. It is not a new idea, been around for several years.

As you say, not a new idea, these types of thermoelectric devices have been under development for a few years ..

the idea of producing an electric current from two dissimilar metals was pioneered in the 19th century and led to the invention of the thermocouple..

No doubt they will develop a unit that can be strapped to an engine exhaust manifold that will produce enough electricity to charge the vehicle battery .. doing away with the alternator thereby increasing the efficiency of the engine which will improve MPG.

As a standalone unit they won't be great as at present they are not very efficient, but utilising waste heat they have a great future.. must be hundreds of applications where waste heat could be recovered.. eg gas boilers. / water and space heaters .. the amount of waste heat is criminal.. literally up in smoke.

they don't use waste heat as they work by utilising the difference between the stove and outside temperature hence the reason they work at max efficiency in the coldest weather. Prices are coming down currently around £300 but a usefull addition to the fulltimers power generation armoury.

Whether it's waste or otherwise they use heat.. no idea what technology this particular product employs.

I was referring to thermo-electrics which revolves around modern-day thermocouples and their application in power generation. Small versions have been used in industry for some years..
