Sorry if i'm asking too many questions.
Picking the camper up tomorrow from North Wales and driving to my mechanic friends garage in Machynlleth.
Van hasn't started for 5 months due to sticky starter and not moved in over a year.
It's a 2.0 hdi peugeot boxer.
Anything i need to check before i drive it away, other than obvious water oil and tyres and brakes?

Going to need Mot,i think i can get one of these at Aberdovey.
What kind of points do these campers fail on?
I allready need a R/H wing mirror as this is hanging off,so looking to replace this.
Have been quoted £ 400 for one of these.

Can anyone recommend where to buy a tow bar for the boxer?
I'm hoping to take my bike with me abroad with a trailer?
Will the 2.0 hdi be strong enough to tow? bike is around 190 kg.

That's all for now thanks again in advance for any guidance.

Hello and welcome.

I'm a newbie and can really recommend this site, it's a good place to be.

Try these http://www.pfjones.co.uk/ for a towbar (Witter). Quality people selling quality towbars at good prices, personally would not advise on cheap for towbars.

Your van wont know you have a trailer behind it at those weights, that's the joy of a commercial base.

Good luck

MOT Matters

Hi,you may well have to carefully check the front shock absorber upper swivelhousings/bearings, a known problem on standing Boxers.

Bearing 4 and seal 7 in bottom left diagram.

if the vans been unmoved for a year you may need a new set of tyres.

flat spots, where the wheels contact the ground, can occur and the sidewalls can crack if exposed to the sun for too long.

the brake disc's and rear drums will have a build-up of rust and the brakes will be vicious when first applied.....a few applications of brakes should clear them eventually.

unless the engine has been started regularly, the cam belt may have deformed over time and could break.
last thing you need is a £1300/£1400 bill for a top end rebuild so worth changing regardless.

Great stuff thanks, allready ordered a cam belt, not taking any risks.
I'll take a good look at the tyres once i get it out of the cow shed.::bigsmile:
It's going to get a full service when i get it to my friends garage and will give the brakes a good going over before taking it for an MOT.:thumb:

Crwydro can mean rambling or going places, wandering as you said.
Crwydryn is someone who does this.
My mother used to call me tramp when i was a young boy, never home and always crwydro here and there.::bigsmile:
Yes i have the perfect toy now to continue my childhood joy.

Picked the van up this morning and all is well.
Took 2 sets of jumper to start, battery is shot.
50 miles later and everything is working ok,no rust on the cross member and suspension is good.
Tyres are ok so Mot end of next week i hope.

Thanks all for the replies, will be back with more questions regarding maintaining and testing the interior very soon.:thumb:

Oh yes forgot to take pics as i was too excited whoo hoo.

Diolch am y croeso Shiftzz

Dont worry about it, you can always blame me... Most do.... Well all actually, got blamed for the Credit Crunch, teh invasion of Nepal, the price of Lift Lemon tea, no jam in the doughnuts. Famine in Porthcawl, the flooding in Penarth and the drought is Pwllhelli. The lost of India in 1947, the bison cull in the USA..
